Yeah good point. However a new Royal Yacht to advertise the UK would be a worthy cause. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/theroyalfamily/9027811/Nothing-would-make-the-case-for-Britishness-like-a-new-royal-yacht.html

HOSPITAL staff are appealing to families and friends wanting to visit patients in Paignton and Dawlish hospitals to stay away to help reduce the spread of the winter sickness bug Norovirus. Torbay and Southern Devon Health and Care NHS Trust, which runs community hospitals in the area, has put restrictions in place on two wards - one at each hospital - due to diarrhoea and vomiting. As a ...
1 Dawlish A visit to Dawlish and Dawlish Warren combines a beach day with a nature trail. Dawlish has the beach and Dawlish Warren has a nature reserve. Being part of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and home to over 600 types of flowering plants, it’s easy to see why it’s so popular with visitors and wildlife alike. Waders and wildfowl can be observed from the various hides which are ...
On a more sensible note remembering back in the 70s up in the Midlands we used to have Sunday markets. They were not so much car boot sales but proper markets with proper market traders. I recall these started off quite small on the old traditional market grounds and factory car parks, but then thay became a massive Sunday activity and moved into the local fields. I maybe wrong but I think the ...

Webmaster ..thank you., oh yes I remember now there used to be a Council section.
I had the tv on this afternoon when an advert came on fronted by Paul O'Grady on behalf of Save The Children. It made such an impact on me that I decided to share it with others. Take a look https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ysJwddnqx-I
Motorists in Devon are being urged to drive carefully, with up to 8cm (3ins) of snow expected to fall in parts of the county on Monday. The Met Office has issued an amber "be prepared" warning for parts of the county for the morning. So far the most snow has been reported on Dartmoor. Snow has also fallen in South Hams, Newton Abbot, Kingsbridge and Torbay. A flood alert has been issued for ...
An interesting article on immigration from today's Observer. http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2013/mar/10/fresh-way-immigration-public-support
Neil, Thanks. It was the usual Topsy problem where I did not set out for it to be long and I became completely absorbed in thought and action - searching out links, reading, pasting them into the message, etc. (completely missing the rugby I had intended to watch.) Don
I thought we had laws in this country like the Data protection act EU human rights directive Will the next step be for the banks having to provide your statement data so that these people can see how much you earn and what you spend it on Forthcoming headline will be Lap Top found on bus containing HMRC database or new database hacked by students or international terrorists. Suppose the ...
People would draw up in their carriages to inhale the scent of violets wafting along the seafront, as porters loaded the ‘flower train’ that brought Devon violets from Dawlish to London Paddington and thence to Covent Garden. From the 1890s, nosegays of violets – selling for only a ha’penny locally – fetched premium prices in London and were Mothering Sunday favourites. Some 200 acres around ...
There is a lights controlled crossing at the top of Secmaton Lane, after the lane the footpath goes onto Langdon hospital ground. The road after Secmaton is not wide enough to support footpath both sides. Also once the bridge works are completed the footpath on both sides will be re-instated over the bridge so I am told.
The Legal Aid Practioners Group say Government plans to cut the legal aid budget will devastate the poorest in society. They say removing access to legal advice will cut off a vital lifeline. VoR's Daniel Cinna reports. This week the Justice Secretary Chris Grayling outlined plans to make further cuts to legal aid – which would mean legal advice on many cases, such as family and employment law, ...
The town council have awarded the underwater hockey club £200 towards the cost of taking two junior teams to Rotterdam to the European underwater hockey open tournament to defend the title they won in 2012. Team South West Junior Underwater Hockey Club has more than 50 members, most from this area. Dawlish Dancers, formerly Dawlish Divas have also been awarded £200 from the council. ...
The scheme could start as soon as this year, tourist leaders have been told. The proposals have been out for public consultation and if there are too many objections officials have warned the cash could be lost. Teignbridge Council and Representatives from the Environment Agency told members of Dawlish Warren Tourism that as soon as the scheme gained support, initial work could start later ...
Nor me. I am an atheist as well.
@Lynne , brazilnut, neilh I am not entering the debate only because I do agree with you.
Why would anybody choose to live at benefit level? Look at the graphs in Lynnes links This is not about saving money its more like social cleansing
Another delaying tactic to put TDC off taking enforcement action. If the electricity and water services have been located in the wrong place then they themselves must have done it, as they are the main and only developer on site. Come on TDC get a grip of this situation its been going on for 2 years now
You haven't told us what the Housing Corporations regulations were. And I think the point of B'nut's original posting is concerned with private sector landlords, the amount of ex local authority housing now in the private rented sector and how much those private sector landlords get from the taxpayer via hb/lha.
NATIONAL HOUSING FEDERATION Thousands of low-income families across the South West will be forced to pay more rent or move out of their homes when the bedroom tax comes in on 1 April, according to the National Housing Federation. Figures released today by the Federation claim that under the Government's new bedroom tax, 30,000 people in the South West will lose an average of £584 a year in ...
Devon towns and villages are to get about £60,000 to prevent flooding. The county council has pinpointed weaknesses after storms led to widespread problems last summer. Plans include £8,000 on new debris grills at Purze Brook, Axminster, £10,000 to divert floods at Sandygate, Kingsteignton and £10,000 on new sluice gates at Dawlish Water. See more...
A lot of sense talked there
Mores the point we in England should be given the vote whether we want to keep the union with the Scots and scrap the Barnett payments.
O in the new strand when its completed could be fun
and this is why this bedroom tax is a monstrosity, lack of council housing being built means there is nowhere for these people to downsize to, private accomodation costs more in LHA. A lot of the high amounts paid in HB/LHA fall in the wealthy capital of London. An average 3bedroom house in this area is £750 per month in london that would be a week no wonder all these people have been buying ...
A group of young people were captured on camera earlier today on the sea wall at high tide being rather foolish, see here https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=413792778709893&set=a.149956191760221.33303.121163121306195&type=1&theater
for info; I've just received this from TDC. Teignbridge housing register - it’s changing. Have your say Background Devon Home Choice is the process people use to look and apply for social housing. It is the housing register for the whole of Devon. The government sets rules on who should take priority in getting homes and councils manage this for their local areas. Recently the government ...

Two groups of youths aged between 16 and 18 were caught with the class B drug in broad daylight and in plublic areas. Eight youngsters were found with the drug when police were on routine patrol. Parents have been informed and advised to deal with the situation as they thought appropriate. One of the youths was found with more of the drug on him and was reprimanded. Source: Dawlish Gazette
Our immigration policy has nothing to do with this Govt. or the last! It was signed up to in previous EU agreements dating back to Heath, Thatcher and beyond/since. It was 'hidden' in economic, Common Market policies that allowed for 'open borders' ostensibly for trade. I'm no Tory and even less a pure 'socialist' but there's no value in blaming this lot! For all his faults Cameron realises ...
