United Kingdom

No benefits for migrants for a year.

Nice one Dave. Why didn't the Labour Party do this years ago?

"Scratch the surface of any Briton and you will find a migrant."

PAUL: How about this more balanced article?

@Mrs C, what's your point?

PAUL:  My point is that sometimes you need to look further than the hysteria being whipped up by the Daily Mail.

OK, good point, which can be said of The Guardian as well.

I think it is a good idea not give handouts too soon. This should deter people from coming here purely for the benefits.

Paul, thanks for the post. Yes I agree with this but i think it's to late. Of course you will be blasted as it come's from the Daily Mail or as some people would call it "The Daily Fail" ..... If benefit's should be given, give them the same benefits that they would get in their own country. Then you would see the difference in migration.

On clicking the link Mrs C posted I now see where she use's the word "Hysteria".  However i wouldn't call her a nutter think that is a little rude but she is misguided to think that all this immigration will have no effect on her in the long term. Just for Mrs C's information we had to pay 5,000 Dollars = 2,000 GBP  legal expenses plus 1,500 Dollars = 928 GBP to the UK Border Agency to have my American Wife enter the UK legally. And on her spousal visa and passport it states and stamped:

NOT ENTITLED TO BENEFITS !! NOT ENTITLED TO BENEFITS !! and rightly so as she has never paid into the system. I on the other hand have and contiued to pay my National Insurance for the past 30 years when i was in the USA plus of course i had paid NI from the age of sixteen when i entered the work place in the UK. So I have a genuine voice.

USER4549: I'm not quite sure what I've done to warrant the sobriquet "nutter" that you lent me?  I pasted the link to the whole article which, like I wrote, provides a more balanced view of the pros and cons.

Thank you BROOKLYN BRIDGE. I never doubted that you have a genuine voice. We all are entitled to our opinion, as long as temperate language and actions are used.

Mrs C, you have a differing opinion which means you will be labelled as a nutter by some on this forum.  You will notice a lot of people don't post on these types of discussions due to the name calling.

Don't pay in, don't get out. To many generations of freeloaders who have never worked sucking this country dry. The last thing we need in this country are people coming over and claiming from a benefit system they have Never contributed to.

Irony alert!

This is a letter in today's 'i' newspaper:

It seems there are 8,000 Bulgarians ready to set foot on British soil. Don't they know we have malnutrition, slavery, austerity by the shedload, limited housing, unemployment, bedroom tax, corrupt politicians, lousy teachers, incompetent health workers and of course inefficient police and social services?
Maybe I should consider emigrating to Bulgaria.
