Looks like one of the utility or civil engineering companies are using the old re-cycling centre as a storage yard for materials and lorries. Could be Bailey's. As for the cycle path, didnt the Police authority ask the the council not to proceed with creating a direct escape route for criminal activity on the Warren.

Why should I feel guilty? Because my house is built where an orchard once stood? As it happens if my house was built on the site of an old factory I would still be arguing the same about the provision of allotments etc. I am no more denying people having roofs over their heads then planners deny people having roofs over their heads by demanding that housing developments have green areas in them ...
The second word to him should have been OFF but I guess if you are a lady its not appropriate
Phoned the number given on the flyer today as have some things needing dry cleaning. Guess what? The people who ran the dry cleaners in Queen Street on the very same people as are advertising on that flyer. So.....we do have dry cleaning service in Dawlish - it's just that it no longer has a shop front.
A brave band of seven cyclists faced the worst of the Westcountry weather as they began a 150-mile cycle ride in aid of Help the Heroes. Describing themselves as "more senior gentlemen", the group set off from their home town of Dawlish first thing in the morning. Organiser Mike Swift, whose son is a colour sergeant in the Coldstream Guards, said: "People have been very supportive and there is ...

Recieved a letter today from May Gurney, informing me that High Street will be closed for essential works near number 35, which I believe is just before Queen Street. Apparently diversions will be in place. Between 1 and 3 October. Pretty short notice. (mind you, I've just thought, maybe that's 2013! Shredded the letter now so can't check!)
Good to see that this has almost been completed, and that its a proper resurfacing job rather than than just the thin scattering of road chippings that I feared. Granted that its not before time, but well done for doing the job properly.
update - went out looking for pumpkins and could only find butternut squash on offer, so its in baking ready for some soup for dinner. Anyone have any other varieties growing? Particularly, spaghetti squash?

Perhaps a new road will need to be built? Wonder how that will get funded? As you say Flo - the traffic around that area is already congested.

Look out for the Harvest Moon next weekend - it's the period of full moon closest to the equinox, so called because ....... The shorter-than-usual time between moonrises around the full Harvest Moon means no long period of darkness between sunset and moonrise for days in succession. In the days before tractor lights, the lamp of the Harvest Moon helped farmers to gather their crops, despite the ...

Hedge foraging. last week I found a hedgerow full of marjoram. I don't know if it has seeded naturally or if someone just scattered some packets of seed on a whim. It struck me that that would be a good idea - if everyone bought a packet of herb seeds and scattered liberally in a local hedge we'd gradually get a local herb store. Go forth and scatter.
