@leatash using an alternative route is of course what a lot of people did, ourselves included on a lot of occasions, how bizarre of you to suggest that anyone would deliberately sit in a queue of traffic because they had to see what was going on with the wall. but sometimes using that part of town was unavoidable and the queues caused in both directions were a hassle for access even if you didn't ...

Why on earth are the lights on at the Tennis Court at 10.30am?
Fred, I totally agree with what you are saying, however this has been going for years at restaurants/hotels anywhere food is served. I wouldn't be surprised if this happens in Dawlish, it would be curious just to ask that question.
A very interesting meeting tonight at Gatehouse School. It was great to hear from other parents who have a very good handle on what the issues are in the school. I hope the governers and teaching staff take on board some of the suggestions. The deputy head however did herself no favours and came across very arrogantly. I think I'll mark her as 'inadequate' as per the new Ofsted markings. For ...
Most of what you say DJ I was only thinking that coming home from a job in Exeter. Exeter is my place of birth but nothing would induce me to go back there, I love to get to the Welcome to Dawlish sign we are a small seaside town which caters mainly for families on a budget, we will never be for the wealthy like some places in the South Hams. I agree traders should concentrate on the residents. ...

@ Dawlish News. So the new transport secreatary visit to dawlish recently worked wonders then.About time.
@wondering the majority of people voted against pedestrianisation
Thanks, Brazilnut, I'll give it a go.
Dawlish, it's a great place to live. I have a good job in Exeter with an easy 25 minure commute to work along a scenic road. We have a supermarket and the town centre is starting to look great after its revamp. There's a Blue Flag beach and walking on Dartmoor isn't far away. Haldon Forest is within easy reach. And we have a great city, Exeter, on our doorstep with all its work, leisure and ...
@Lynne . what would you personally consider to be sustainable transport. any motor vehicle that relies on todays fuel technology isent. there is therefore no point in causing more congestion by putting on more buses running around empty for most of the day. dawlish coaches tried it years ago and it just dosent pay. Perhaps better management and timing of what we have already would be a more ...
@Brazilnut As I have no connection with the Council I've no idea why you should think I know more than you concerning the redevelopment of The Strand.
Not sure if its all related to 'The Wall' but the amount of traffic using Park Road seems to have increased significantly in the last few weeks.
Park Home residents are celebrating the Mobile Home Act 2013 which forbids owners of Parks from being able to prevent residents selling their Mobile Homes to whoever they want at a price the two parties agree. Unscrupulous operators have in the past intervened telling prospective buyers that the dwellings aren't fit for sale, then purchase the units themselves at knock down prices and put them ...
Went to Warren Farm boot fair yesterday. Charging 30p per pedestrian entrance fee. Don't know what they were charging for cars but did see some drive straight in and straight back out again. Yesterday, at the entrance to the bootfair, the organisers were showing a list of what they charge sellers. Believe the cheapest is £7.00 per car if selling second hand stuff. Charges increase if selling half ...
Cuts to Welfare Benefits may be politically expedient (ie popular with the electorate) but in actual fact may not be that economically cost effective (as has been pointed out on other threads on this website). https://www.dawlish.com/thread/details/23031
Police in Devon are seeking a 35-year-old man who is wanted for recall to prison following a conviction for drugs offences in 2011. Damian Pearce from Dawlish (pictured) is currently sought by police for breaching his prison licence when he was released. Officers says they are proactively following a number of lines of enquiry to try and find Pearce, and intend to arrest and return him to prison ...
I grew up with a sister who is a severe epileptic, she has never been able to lead a normal life. When I was young I always took her out with myself and my friends so they all learnt to handle somebody who has seizures, and to not be afraid. My late father became involved with Mencap because of her condition. I wish your wife a speedy recovery
@Carer yes that does answer my question.thanks.
If I was overlooking No2? I'd be tottaly pi--ed off
WHAT HAVE I BEEN SAYING FOR THE LAST MONTH OR TWO. ITS A BRIAN RIX FARCE. NO, MORE ITS A BLOODY CIRCUS RUN BY KN--S INC.
Differing experiences at Torbay - on the one hand they saved my Dad's life because one of the doctors recognised the slightly unusual thinig he had wrong with him and got treatment sorted so quickly that he was saved from brain damage and possible death, so obviously very grateful to them for that. But then we had a time when my son got concussion and by the time they saw him in A&E he had waited ...
Excellent to see another local independent store opening, and something a bit different too. Dawlish has some fantastic independent businesses. Wish them every success.
Yeah, that has been thought of. Unfortunately I'm no longer part of it so can't answer for the current committee. I have to say though that on 2 previous occasions when the Riders Branch have said that they're coming to something we've had on they've cancelled at the last minute. If that happened under this scenario it would be a disaster. I think what people need to focus on is that you pay ...

The Naked Truth: Cameron:Is he the worst prime minister in British history. . Only the truly odious Duncan Smith would try and use last weeks terror attack as an excuse to further Demonise the poor in our society..One day the people of this country will ask how a pathetically inadequate man like Smith was ever allowed to hold an office of any sort in this country of ours...This poor excuse of a ...
Two schools are celebrating after being crowned as the best of their kind in the Westcountry. Both schools received a letter of congratulations from Mr Clegg following their accolades in the 2013 Pupil Premium Awards. ...

A "manipulative" paedophile, caged for the sickening sexual abuse of a boy while sleeping over at his home, has had his potentially lifelong sentence quashed. Jade Cook, 23, "duped" a 13-year-old boy into performing oral sex on him, having accepted his parents' hospitality and lied about his age while grooming the boy online. Cook, of Oak Park Villas, Dawlish, Devon, was caged indefinitely for ...
Went by it today (Shutterton Bridge end) and............it's open!
Will fit in the community very well indeed possible future M.P.material.
I would imagine it will be made public as the term finishes.
FredBassett you are correct and the reason was that they had to show the time they arrived ie on double yellows or at a pay and display bay. I have been visiting Ilfracombe today and there disabled badge holders are time limited in the pay and display around the town centre but have unlimited time in the main car parks. Devon county needs to look at the problem and act accordingly.
@willosindawlish .you forgot to mention the most importantant part, which is this is the 15th.year dawlish warren has now had this blue flag.
