Let's remember that Christmas is supposedly the season of Goodwill to all (men & women) irrespective of race, religion, sexual orientation, age, ability/disability and my wish for Christmas and the New year is that everyone shows more compassion to others.

I was struck by what a poignant example of compassion was shown by Maureen Greaves:  "One year after a Christmas murder, a widow's simple plea: 'Forgive them'".  See story on:  http://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2013/dec/22/maureen-greaves-forgive-killers

Unbelievable!!!!!!!!  Wake up Taylorjack (and whoever agreed with you!!).  Christmas is NOT English.  It is celebrated around the world as a Christian 'festival' and the aethos is most definitely goodwill to ALL.  Whether or not you are a believer in Christianity that seems a laudable sentiment.

I think I have just reminded everyone that Christmas is one symbol of a season of goodwill to all, which I would extend to the whole year, not just a few days at the end of December.  Is that not a nice Christmas message to everyone?  And what Maureen Greaves has done is a beautiful message to us all.

Perhaps you are saying that you do not want goodwill to all?  And if you don't then it's just hypocrisy to wish everyone a merry Christmas.

Lets remember why we celebrate Christmas, it is a Christian Celebration of the birth of Christ, symbolising the 3 gifts from the Magi. All this seems to have been forgotten in a frenzy of spend spend spend, and gorge ourselves on food and alcohol when many are homelees, hungry and unable to afford the basics in life. Also the greed of retailers who force their staff to work over Christmas when their industry is not conclusive to saving lives.
