Just got back from this, having bought some really appetising goodies. Very busy. Lots of cakes, and savouries, and breads, and meats, and home made chutneys and marmalades and jams and cheeses. And there was a deli. And outside there was a fruit and veg stall. Really hope it is succesful and can be a monthly event. It certainly got me into the town today.
Hi. They may be switched on next week for the half term holidays.
Is this any use to anyone? Opportunity to save costs if you use oil for heating. http://devonrcc.org.uk/c/63/the-devon-oil-collective?utm_source=Community+Council+of+Devon+Mailing+List&utm_campaign=bb5d1fb141-Events_Publicity10_11_2012&utm_medium=email
I completely agree, we must stop all this laziness. This would be another step towards a fairer society. Brilliant news. Link: http://www.standard.co.uk/news/politics/endless-benefits-for-big-families-is-madness-says-iain-duncan-smith-8226148.html
The chairman hasnt left yet and I think now you will find he will stay to run his family affair!!!!!
The seaside town of Dawlish, on the south coast of Devon, hosted a landmark event in the history of UK railway infrastructure during the weekend of 13th - 14th October 2012 when a replacement footbridge was installed. The coastal railway line, part of Network Rail's mainline network is noted for its particularly scenic qualities and for being one of the most exposed in the country, constantly ...
Just had a mooch around there. Make sure you breath in - there's lots and lots and lots of stuff and not a lot of room left to be able to walk around and view it! Took me a while to find Ellie's Attic. But taking the first turning on the right after you enter Shutterton Industrial Estate would be a basic direction to go in. Then look to the left as you go up that right hand turn. (and yes I did ...
GREAT NEWS! That, together with the Section 16 windfalls, will make a big difference towards the common aim of improving the town centre for residents and tourists alike.
I presume this should have read Barton Hill. Have not seen any other reports about it so have no idea what she was up to unless she was looking for an outfit for the Christmas party.

A woman has been freed from a car which got stuck in the mud during a rising tide after it ended up in a harbour. The vehicle hit a wall, flipped over, and landed on its wheels in Cockwood Harbour near Starcross, Exeter, Devon, at about 21:50 BST on Sunday. Read more...
I see there is a thread running on Eyes of Dawlish about this with some interesting comments for, against, and amending the idea I put forward above. Great. That's what ideas are for. To be thrashed out, thought about and, if necessary, to be chucked out. But in order for that to happen of course they have to be 'out there' in the public domain. So, does anyone else have any other ideas for ...
On a practical note, the trees act as a wind break and also soak up a great deal of water from the Lawn.
Dawlish Ladies Hockey Club is one of Dawlish's oldest sports set ups and is in danger of closing after almost 60 years. The club is appealing for new members and meets for training sessions every Tuesday evening between 6.30pm and 7.30pm at the all weather pitch at Sandy Lane. Women and girls aged 13 and over and of any ability can take part. Source: Dawlish Gazette
Thanks Lynn i will check that out. John
Oh yes I guess Punch is a bit of a bully. The ice cream sponsored by ice cream firms and it would remind people to buy one!
Re ripening - yep, bananas will do it, as will apples (that can still be eaten, as opposed to the black bananas). All due to the gas; ethylene. But the fruits must be covered (as you say) in newspaper or cloth, which traps the ethylene. In the trade, I often used to 'bury' inripe avocados, mangoes & pawpaw in the rice bin to speed up thier softening. The rice traps the natural ethylene around the ...
My friends and I often use taxis especially for a night out in Exeter. We usually have difficulty getting a 6 seater and have to wait too long for one to become available. I'm very grateful for this post as we will definitely ring Abacus Taxis in the near future.
Very sorry to hear such sad news. You have my deepest sympathy.
Yes great walk but not that easy if you're not a regular walker. The climb out of Shaldon is notoriously steep and if the weather is as wet as it has been in recent months the back lanes from Beacon Hill down to the estuary can get muddy/slippery/deep! The last stretch back along the estuary needs a lowish tide otherwise it's just road walking.
It looks a mess with half of it up and the other half hanging down dragging on wet pavements. I understood that it was the Carnival Committee that put it up surely they should take it down. Half a job done, and it does matter because yet again Dawlish looks shabby and uncared for.
As things concerning the railway are topical at the moment I thought it appropriate to post this. http://www.discoveringbritain.org/walks/region/south-west-england/south-devon-railway.html There's an article about 'our' railway line on page 17 of this week's Dawlish Post. Here's an extract: "The railway line between Exeter and Newton Abbot is being highlighted by a national body as one of the most ...
Here we go again - should be a tester to drop the new bridge in place - looking forward to the pics and any video. Much obliged for all your efforts in recording this major engineering project for the town. I would have thought the Dawlish Museum would be interested in keeping a photographic record of this project.
Red and blue as I write this. Take a look at it from Lea Mount or somewhere of similar height above sea level.
THE £27million redevelopment of Langdon Hospital has reached a milestone. Health bosses and construction partners marked the topping out of the new Dewnans Centre (pictured) at the mental health unit in Dawlish. Read More....
The home of sport in Dawlish could get a top quality new all-weather pitch if Teignbridge District Council's Executive agrees the next step of a £300,000 refurbishment programme. The 20-year-old artificial pitch at Dawlish Leisure Centre, Sandy Lane, will be replaced with a modern AstroTurf Pitch (ATP) if the Executive approves a recommendation to appoint an approved contractor to carry out the ...
2012 Aid: £650m to Pakistan (a nuclear power), £1bn to India (a nuclear power with its own space programme) out of a total overseas aid programme of £12bn. The current deficit? £12bn!!! It doesn't take a mathematician to work out that we're going wrong somewhere. Coupled with that the £6bn reported tax debt of Vodafone alone then add all the other large corporations who also dodge tax....we should ...
and here are some Christmas vacancies with Debenhams in Torquay and Exeter http://search.debenhams-jobs.com/vacancylist.cfm?start=1
There's an article about this in this week's Dawlish Gazette. According to the paper the work is due to start in early January and be finished by beginning of May next year. Work will be suspended over the Easter weekend.
Looks like one of the utility or civil engineering companies are using the old re-cycling centre as a storage yard for materials and lorries. Could be Bailey's. As for the cycle path, didnt the Police authority ask the the council not to proceed with creating a direct escape route for criminal activity on the Warren.
Why should I feel guilty? Because my house is built where an orchard once stood? As it happens if my house was built on the site of an old factory I would still be arguing the same about the provision of allotments etc. I am no more denying people having roofs over their heads then planners deny people having roofs over their heads by demanding that housing developments have green areas in them ...
The second word to him should have been OFF but I guess if you are a lady its not appropriate
Phoned the number given on the flyer today as have some things needing dry cleaning. Guess what? The people who ran the dry cleaners in Queen Street on the very same people as are advertising on that flyer. So.....we do have dry cleaning service in Dawlish - it's just that it no longer has a shop front.
A brave band of seven cyclists faced the worst of the Westcountry weather as they began a 150-mile cycle ride in aid of Help the Heroes. Describing themselves as "more senior gentlemen", the group set off from their home town of Dawlish first thing in the morning. Organiser Mike Swift, whose son is a colour sergeant in the Coldstream Guards, said: "People have been very supportive and there is ...
A mother from Devon is spearheading a campaign to make a cystic fibrosis drug available on the NHS immediately. Jess Nickless, from Dawlish, whose daughter Ellie has the condition, has asked the government to make Kalydeco available to those who would benefit. Read more...
