It looks like these benefits will become means tested.. I agree that some people do not need the governments help but in all my life Ive paid for everything and now Im in my 60s and still need to work it seems Im going to be penalised again, I need regular meds and always prepayed until I reached 60 and thought at last a bit of benefit, seems Im going to lose that now. I dont use my bus pass as I ...

History is more than just kings, queens, the exploits and dastardly deeds of the rich and powerful. It is also the rich collection of anecdotes about ordinary folk which shape the nation we are. Here's one about a Dawlish man ..... On 25th May 1876 a Dawlish man, one C. Lang, took a bet and probably in a fit of drunken bravado ran from the Teignmouth Inn in Dawlish to the Dawlish Inn in ...
Nice! :-) But did you try my recipe?
Hi Paul, I've set up the Bipolar Awareness Group, modified your 2 events, added an article on Bipolar and merged your discussion threads into 3 and removed duplicates. Let me know if this is OK and whether you need me to add anything else.
Oooops, best make that ...... Great Britaiiiiiiiiiiiiin! ;-)
Oh totally serious, as per usual. Jimmy hasn't re-tweeted yet though. #legalbutunethicaltaxavoidanceschemes
Agreed. A well-researched and interesting summary of the historic features of Dawlish. Worth reading.
Hi Paul. Good luck with your fundraising - your efforts at drumming up support are really admirable and should be a lesson to others. However, whilst I cannot claim to be speaking for others, I myself suggest that you might do even better if you posted about your fundraising on just the one thread, rather than five different ones at the same time. I'm not having a pop, honestly, just trying to be ...

The first mention of "PCN's" on Willo's thread, was by you 10 or so mins ago. I was only trying to seek clarification. Ultimately, we need rigorously enforced parking limits - which I'm glad to see that we have.
Former dental technician, Stephen Sickelmore, who made dentures in "appalling" conditions in his house has had part of his sentence cut. The 52-year-old was sentenced in January to nine months in jail, suspended for two years, and 180 hours unpaid work. But a court hearing has revoked the community service because Sickelmore is receiving treatment for a brain tumour. Sickelmore, of Old ...
hmmm .... chocolate omelet? Heston would be proud of your thinking Philip ;-) Actually a souffle chocolate omelet, with a fresh raspberry sauce makes a lovely dessert (=[:-D
Orsmans Pasty Factory near the docks in Teignmouth! They're responsible for my life long love of a decent DEVON pasty! Shame it closed down.
I think I have to apologise for this one! Sorry folks, the story pinged up on my Telegraph page and I assumed it was from the previous Bank Hol. Why it would come up 3 years later is beyond me and is best addressed to The Telegraph. ................it's still quite funny though!
As soon as Hitler or the Nazis are mentioned in an argument the poster loses! It's called Godwin's Law (look it up on Wiki!). So Mughead - you lose again! We do need a hour's free parking if the town is to survive. I know a lot of people who don't carry cash (yes - even small amounts - me included) who don't park in the town centre due to the current propensity of Parking Taxers patrolling ...
Unfortunately the same would apply here. Food Safety Cert as a minimum and probably one of the new fangled hygiene certs too. Great idea though, I wonder if the Enviro Health Dept would waive their rules for charity. Someone should try it.
Brilliant!!! The community at its best. Well done to all involved.
By coincidence I was looking at the council's website today about their responsibilities for weeds (in particular Ragwort which you see in abundance in their area of responsibility although private landowners can be prosecuted for it) and noticed that they no longer routinely spray footpaths and pavements for weeds. This came about after the Govt. budget cuts. I'm sure we've all noticed that they ...
A “drunken lout”, caught on CCTV as he groped a student in Exeter, has had his jail term halved by top judges on appeal. Shane Hobbs was spotted by camera operators as he staggered around the city centre, lunging at women as they walked past. The 27-year-old, of Lee Cliff Park, Dawlish Warren, Devon, was jailed for 16 months at Exeter Crown Court in April after admitting sexual assault and ...
Had a great time at the Boathouse beer festival along with many others. The weather could have been better but I don't think that bothered anyone though. Hollow Underground were great. Now looking forward to a great summer of fun in Dawlish.
I don't take a phone on holiday, but I've written to both bodies on my return. Not just about Baileys but also about some of the good things I saw and experienced around the town. I didn't appproach Baileys staff to tell them about the smell, as they are working in it I'm sure they are quite aware of it.
I visited the premises and had a look around, apart from a batch of old Wisdens there wasn't much that interested me personally.
Chimmichurri sauce - perfect bbq accompliment to just about any meats and seafoods, or for my Sunday Brunch special; Extra creamy scrambled eggs, with chimmichurri and fruit toast. It can also be used for a marinade https://www.dawlish.com/article/details/60
Thanks both. Forgot to mention I have already joined the FB group "Eyes of Dawlish" so you can find me in there -- "Sharon W........." There can't be too many Sharon W's !!

More than 30 people turned out to an emergency meeting to discuss the use of the Lawn during carnival week. Carnival Organisers wanted to put large fairground rides on the back area of the Lawn, traditionally kept free for families to picnic. Last year was said to be more like the Rolands roadshow, and Dawlish residents have asked for fewer rides during carnival week. Carnival Organisers ...
HIGH demand for the first Dawlish Triathlon, to be held on September 30, at Dawlish Warren, has forced organisers to increase numbers from 150 participants to 200. "This is now set at the maximum that we can take for our first year," said organiser, Bob Bowen. "We thought we would struggle to get people to take part and now we are increasing our numbers to 200. "Next year we will have to look ...
On the train the other day, I overheard some mothers discussing the fact they had to provide a cake for a school fete. They discussed fresh or packet or should they just buy a pre-made one? How baking was enjoyable but the cleaning wasn't, having to drag the mixer out, how complicated the recipes always were etc etc I apologise for eavesdropping, but I hope they are Dawlish.com readers. Because ...
Nelson have you got something against me, I am a 28 year old with 2 kids and a Bouncy castle company i like to take photos and submit them to my friends to use in the Gazzette. The End
Following criticism from quality inspectors steps have been taken to improve safety at a unit at Langdon Hospital. The Care Quality Commission has found improvements have been made after follow-up visits to the Owen House Unit and it now meets the CQC's essential quality and safty standards. Earlier this year major concerns were raised by inspectors who found it was failing to meet the ...
'Awesome' on Queen Street has everything that a sk8tr boi (or grrrrl) could wish for. It also sells a wide range of scooters - sorry Ethel, not mobility scooters, but the two-wheeled variety for kids of all ages. A belated welcome to Dawlish.
Well, I'd keep it long enough to read it!
Duelly noted, and some recipes already posted (=|:-D
Anyone know the outcome of the emergency town council meeting last night ? Between the council and the carnival organisers.
Organised by the Dawlish Coasters, the Dawlish Dash is just under four miles, starting and finishing at Dawlish Warren. Ellie Sutcliffe was there for the June 14 event in the Harriers’ colours. The first half of the race is run on the beach and you have to negotiate a dozen or so coastal defence groins. After three quarters of a mile you turn around, run all the way back again, and then ...
@goldenlad and @warrendunes -- thanks for all the info. Fingers and toes crossed I sign the lease on the flat tomorrow (am staying in Devon in a hotel for a few days) then move from London this weekend (Sat 23rd) .... and then from Sat pm / Sunday 24th I will properly become a "Dawlisher" .... (is that the correct terminology? LOL!) Very excited + so looking forward to escaping the rat race ...
BBC News - Devon County Council parking management investigated
