You are right Nelson . it would not take much to make it look nice.

Watchdog confirms "private parking companies" cannot fine you only courts can.
Has anyone run the Haldon Heartbeat before? 9 mile charity run through Haldon Forest on 28 April. Just wondering how easy/difficult a course it is.
You can't recognise it easily. Even those with training in breed identification often struggle to pick out the breeds of mixed dogs. You can, however, do a DNA test - something that the RSPCA are considering on some dogs in their care.
Spot on. Unbeatable! It was lovely on Sunday to see so many families enjoying themselves on the beach at Dawlish.
Just had an e-mail in from TDC to say that they have now checked their records re the 'missing' letter and it does indeed seem to be the case that they didn't send one out to me and about 20 other people as well. Letters, by 1st class post, are now on their way to all who were left out.
If you read the Gazette you'll see on page 3 of this week's edition an article about the Dawlish Portas Pilot Bid. At the bottom of the article there is a request that we should show our individual support for the bid by emailing the TDC Economy and Regeneration Officer, Naomi Harnett email economyandtourism@teignbridge.gov. uk As the bid has to be submitted this Friday I'd suggest we get ...
Thanks folks fo acting on that prompt. Lynne was not the only one to try a polite (?) letter to TDC and I think that waiting time is over. I will raise this with the relevant committee of the Town Council but not this week because the important people are working very hard to ensure the assets go back to TDC on 1st April so that we can redirect the Parish Precept to more effect. I will also try ...
A NEW local plan for Dawlish could take an important step forward next month as the locally prepared Neighbourhood Plan for the town goes to an independent public examination. The town is one of the first in the country to pioneer the Neighbourhood Planning system, which enables a Steering Group made up of local people, community groups and councillors to come together and create a plan for ...
Dawlish could be set to get more funds for town centre improvements as Teignbridge District Council bids for money from the Government’s £1million Portas fund. The fund was established following a review of high street health by retail guru Mary Portas, and will offer 12 communities a share of the £1m fund. See: ...
A worker at a holiday park suffered serious injuries when an "inadequate" trench he was working in collapsed on top of him. The park's operators have been ordered to pay more than £7,000 after Grzegorz Waluszkowski suffered multiple injuries in July 2010. he 40-year-old was helping to lay a drainage pipe at the park on Lady's Mile Farm, when the wall of the two metre-deep trench caved in. ...
Thanks for the info Cassandra. If additional work is required, then the timing of it would presumably depend upon the urgency of the need for replacement. One can only hope that the urgency is not that great, and that seasonal trade is therefore not unduly affected. Still, it's never bad is it that the planned work was completed as per schedule?
@willosindawlish I am not clear what it is that you are saying. I know that this is a low crime area - that is the point. In the late Sixties I lived in Liverpool 8 (Toxteth) and, even then, the police patrolled only in armoured land rovers like an occupying army. Subsequently, I was in London for many years. When I moved to Teignmouth, I couldn't believe that the flashing blue lights were ...
Have just read a salutary account of a Luftwaffe pilot whose body was washed up on the beach at Dawlish on 13th January 1943. He had been shot down three days earlier during the bombing raid on Teignmouth. He was buried with full military honours in a war grave in Exeter cemetery. R.I.P. Feldwebel Joachim von Bitter, age 20 Six weeks later the British pilot who had shot him down was killed ...
And when you add in the owls hooting outside it's quite magical
Plus of course paying people to do work then gives them money to spend (and yes I know that's stating the blinding obvious but I thought it needed saying) and if they have money to spend then they create demand and if they create demand then that demand must be met by supply and that supply is provided by others who in turn are being paid to work and who therefore have money to spend which in turn ...
This thread isn't about me. I notice that you fail to disagree about the fact that profiteering takes place. Be it the retailer or the supplier is semantics. I buy my petrol from a petrol station, and such minor technicalities are irrelevant when deciding which petrol station to use. The price, however, is very relevant.
If it stops the town centres around turning into no-go areas on too many nights of the week then it can't be a bad thing. Loads of youngters get very drunk at home on alcohol bought cheaply at supermarkets before they go out and then top it up with drinks bought at pubs and clubs. 24 hour licences helped to fuel this and they should also be banned. My elderly parents live on a route up from ...
Yes, Bullingdon. The stuff of future prime ministers and mayors of London .......
Thanks Taverner. Shame. Seemed like a cunning plan that Baldrick would have been proud of!!
And the South West is the best region for Solar PV electricity production - theoretically every house could be a generator to cover its own needs and feed back into the grid - dramatically cutting dependency on carbon-fuel based power stations
We seem to be going round in circles. See my post above: "If we start from the premise that a couple who have children are actually providing a benefit to society then you get a different picture. Why are they providing ? - because it's their children who will keep society going, who provide the future economy, who do the building, who produce the food, who care for the increasingly aging ...
OK here goes: 1. Assume working population of 20 million 2. Assume 1% are earning more than £150,000 a year (i.e. the 50% tax bracket) 3. So this gives 200,000 in that tax bracket 4. Assume average tax kick-back for this group is £17,500 5. This is roughly equivalent to two people on minimum wage (i.e. £17,500 + JSA or income support for 2 people which state wouldn't have to pay (say ...

Sorry, there weren't any. So, you could still be in line for a drop in income (because you'll no longer be getting the child tax credit) and/or the working tax credit if you can't find those extra hours that will bring you up to 24 per week if you are a couple with at least one child. Here's the info that I originally posted. Like I said, as far as I am aware, what is said in this link will ...
The proposals as per originally put forward (see my first posting on the Child Benefit Reforms thread) have now been altered in today's budget. The situation is now as follows: A family with an income of below £50,000 pa will get CB. A family that has an income of (or has one of the two earner's earning) £50,000 -£60,000pa will still get CB but it will be tapered off bit by bit the nearer ...
from today's Dawlish Gazette http://www.dawlishnewspapers.co.uk/news.cfm?id=10279&headline=Video will help boost bid for town money
Especially me why????? I'm all for a cracking Jubilee Week for those not at work, and have said so all along!!!! Good luck to you Huw and the rest of your RBL pals.
"Nelson 01/03/2012 FAO Webmaster. What other 'personal comments'? Just so as I can re-read them and understand what offence I have caused and to whom. Thank you. As for Martin Dix, he clearly stopped using this forum because he realised that he'd let slip his true identity!!!" Perhaps I could remind you of some comments you made under the 'Why?' discussion below.
Yet more reason not to go into Dawlish town centre?
Anybody who wants one here is the link http://www.edesix.com/products.html
The Working Poor. Bit of a long article but shows what it is like to be a poor but working family. Feel sure we have similar situations in the south west as well. http://www.guardian.co.uk/society/2012/mar/17/life-britain-working-poor
And who will be giving up their cars? No-one. Because modern living simply doesn't allow it. So pay up and enjoy paying your 80% tax for the good of the country.
I know Cassandra, think I am going to have to sprout wings and fly to work......
Used to work in CAB. The training is very intensive for a voluntary service & the workers are dedicated & caring. Always thought it was a shame when they closed in Dawlish. Good luck to Anne & Andy with the outreach service.
