I've a king size 13.5 tog duvet that needs cleaning. The label says not to dry clean it.

So, does anyone know where I can get it washed? Don't want to be stuck in a launderette for hours myself so would be looking for a service wash.

Thanks

The one that specialises in duvet's and has larger machines is in Bitten Road Teignmouth just before you get to Tesco on the right, Make sure you take lots of pound coins for the dryer

so I gave 'em a call and yes they do duvet washing.

£10 per duvet whatever its size.

Hi Lynne.

For that price, you can get a brand new one from Asda.

Got one myself.

Check it out.

In a world of recycling, you still choose to throw away, then theres the thought of £10 to local cleaning company or however much to Asda/chinese manufacturer, then people start threads on here saying why are all the shops closing in Dawlish and no work locally, erm!

@Andysport.

Sorry Andy, BUT when it comes to economics, some of us have to watch EVERY PENNY that goes out of the household, and when I say every penny, I mean just that.

Unfortunately, some do not have the luxury of living a lavish lifestyle and cannot afford to have their duvet cleaned, especially when the cheaper option is to buy new, and NO, I have never complained about shops closing.

Besides, I wouldnt think that people who charge extortionate amount for goods and services will worry about me when I lose my home as I simply cannot afford it, so that is the reason why I have to really search for bargains and shop out of town whenever necessary.

I hope that you never find yourself in the same position that my wife and I find ourselves in.

BTW, duvets can be recycled and turned into loft insulation amongst other things so old ones are not wasted.

£6 to get it washed at dawlish launderette, ok.. you have to dry it, but unless you have a "smart price" duvet, it has to be worth it.

If you're set on replacing it, then recycling charities may be interested (e.g. refurnish/devon, turntable/exeter) or homeless charities such as St Petrocks/Exeter

@Carer - I've just read your post again and would just like to point out that my family's lifestyle is far from lavish. It is just that I would prefer to have my bigger duvets cleaned and then re-use them rather than buy new. The dog gets the old single ones for bedding and believe me we watch the pennies in this household just like many many other households right now.

So, I would choose to spend £10 on having a double or king size duvet cleaned rather than buy a new one. And as Andysport points out, I'm using a local business in the process.  Re-use, repair, recycle and all that. It's part of my set of values. Other people cannot bear the thought of that and buy new for all different kinds of things.  Their money, their choice.

Different people have different sets of values and spend money in different ways according to those values.

If anyone has any old duvets may I have them please to use as insulation, (to insulate the underneath of our caravan we live in)

insulation has gone up from £7 to around £30 at B&Q

To Carer, sorry if I annoyed you, I didn't mean too, on the subject of companies charging extortionate amounts of money one local company charged us £648 for 3 persons to do 2 hours work, we had no choice but to use them.

The transport for our caravan £300 for 1 1/2 miles

Oh and I got offered a job last week at £7 per hour

Everything down here costs more than in the Midlands, Chinese takeaway is twice the price, eating out is so expensive, we just don't do it, and beer, well no wonder the pubs are closing down.

Rant over

Whilst on another post this thought came to mind, therefore returning to write,

this is mean't to be funny. wink ... Shift+R improves the quality of this image. CTRL+F5 reloads the whole page.

So if your looking to economise and watch every penny then I've just seen a great offer on at Sainsbury's they have Champagne reduced from £30 a bottle down to £15 oh and if you buy 2 cases you get an extra 5% off.

Wow bargainsurprise ... Shift+R improves the quality of this image. CTRL+F5 reloads the whole page.

12 bottles a mere £171

So who buys 2 cases of champagne at £15 a bottle ?crying ... Shift+R improves the quality of this image. CTRL+F5 reloads the whole page.

Can't wait for the replies to this one, by the way I don't like champagne.

(a) Bankers - only they don't wait for any special offers & (b) politicians - who charge it to the general public anyway.  I'm sure there'll be other suggestions.
