In summer, if the weather's nice, there's nowhere better than Dawlish Warren beach for keeping the kids amused all day - you don't need to run the gauntlet of airports, queues, etc. But only, of course, if you get fine weather - nothing worse than huddling together on a freezing cold beach. Also, of course, you need to take your own food as the takeaway food is rubbish and the service is dead ...
Just a reminder that if you haven't responded yet you have until 4.30pm Friday 2nd March to do so. This link should take you to the relevant online page - look to the right for the various aspects of the draft strategy including the proposals for Dawlish. http://www.teignbridge.gov.uk/index.aspx?articleid=15096 Lots in this week's edition of the Gazette about the proposed number of houses and ...
From the young couple looking to take their first step onto the housing ladder to the growing family needing more bedrooms and space – Bovis Homes will have something for everyone at their new developments currently being built across Devon. The national housebuilder has a proud history of building quality new homes in the county and although they have not been active in the area for a while, ...
I too did the same walk thismorning it was lovely to see so many families enjoying the spring like weather.
A lovely time at Topsham, lovely estuary town, very unique followed by watching Black Swans win their area final on penalties!!!!!
So even as a commuter town Dawlish has something to offer. There are many reasons to live Dawlish othe than shops...
Yep, but that was recently, nothing to do with the time that Stokes opened in Dawlish and Teignmouth, at that time Stokes were a big group with 92 stores and a Head Office in Bristol.
I see from this week's Dawlish Post that the outlook doesn't seem too good for those in Teignbridge who are seeking work. (see page 3 "Three Chasing Each Job Vacancy".). And remember, those figures only relate to people claiming Jobseeker's Allowance. Don't forget that there are many others who would like to work but who don't sign on for one reason or another According to the article, Devon ...
David Force is doing an excellent job in driving the chamber of trade forward. The chamber in trade, in turn, is doing its best to promote Dawlish in every way it can, to the benefit of the town. After all the more people that are driven here to live/visit/holiday then the local economy can only profit. The more positive the townsfolk are, the better Dawlish will become.
Libby, 007 - thank you I'd be very happy to get feedback and suggestions. If anyone has any articles or information about Dawlish I could use, I'd be very grateful. I'm also happy to post details of Dawlish events - I can be contacted via the contact form on DawlishBlue.
Doh! I left out the page number! It's on page 6.

But most of the shops and cafes open on Sundays from Easter anyway. There's no point in opening on a wet Sunday in January but once the season kicks off at Easter most places go right through until October half-term. I tried staying open in the winter in a previous business - got as far as end of November when I stopped breaking even and started losing money.
Anyone else see the advert in this month's Dawlish Diamond asking for volunteer visitors for those in the Dawlish area who, for whatever reason(s), are leading very lonely lives and who are in need of some company. If you can spare some time whether it be as little as an hour a week, a fortnight or a month the Dawlish and East Teignbridge Volunteer Bureau would love to hear from you. Tel: 01626 ...
To use an awful pun - it seems the state of the economy is beginning to bite. See page 5 of this week's Dawlish Post - article headed "More Needing Help As Cash Crisis Bites". Increase in numbers in Teignbridge, including those in work, needing emergency food parcels, money etc. See my posting above for contact details.
Thank you for all your thoughts and advice. Think I will go and see both and get a feel for them and the teachers. Thanks again
Well I have suggested a grand row of fluttering flags. If the council put the posts up, I will fund the England flag
This post office is beyond useless. I phoned ahead to make sure they can do car tax, went down there, went to pay and got 'you can't use a credit card'. Fantastic, thanks for wasting my time.
Yes I saw that and thought along similar lines to yourself. On this question of energy. Thought you might find today's lead story in The Independent of interest. http://www.independent.co.uk/
If the proposals for the Strand are going to lead to a dead centre for the town then the numerous dead palm trees in Tucks plot will form a suitable backdrop.!
5 mile run to your AA meeting more like ..
Three Devon hospitals have been criticised by the health watchdog, following unannounced inspections. Whipton Hospital in Exeter, Langdon Hospital in Dawlish and Penhayes House Hospital in Kenton care for patients with learning disabilities. Following the inspections late last year, the Care Quality Commission (CQC) found there was often a "lack of patient-centered care". The hospitals' said ...
Meet the man who has one of Britain's most unusual job combinations – piano tuner to the stars and fearless firefighter. Robert Porch is a professional piano tuner who is regularly being called on for top musicians such as Elton John, Matt Bellamy of rockers Muse, Shirley Bassey and Chris de Burgh. But uniquely, he is also a retained firefighter attending an average four call-outs a week in ...

What do single mothers look like 007? Our daughter is a single mother (age 27, son 13 months, she works, pays for childcare, pays her mortgage, pays for her car, takes enormous care of, and cherishes her baby) but she LOOKS exactly like a married mother as far as I can tell - and she might be in a Cafe having a coffee with a friend for all you know.
@wondering I prefer to think of it as the town centre, a lot can still be done to make it a more pleasant place, widen pavement, put road back as it used to be before pavements to nowhere and bollards where put in.Parking only on the Lawnside with railings and a pavement. Landscape the Lawn properly with more inviting flower beds, clean and revitalise the Brook, address Tucks Plot, get some ...
Dawlish-based Teignmouth Maritime Services Ltd will attempt to recover one of Teignmouth's best-known trawlers after she ran aground and capsized in waters off her home port. A rescue operation is continuing to refloat the Girl Rona which overturned after hitting a sandbank at the mouth of the River Teign. Her five-man crew — including the owner — were rescued unharmed in the sea drama. ...
It would be interesting if everyone in the country withdrew their money at the same time from bank accounts in protest. Perhaps politicians would then take notice.
That's the one! Thanks.....
The Wee Shoppe get their stock delivered from their bakery in Teignmouth every morning so they just sell what is delivered every day as packed, am sure the thought of doing something different is completely alien. Pity, as that is normally the reason most people go to a small shop. I once wanted to place a regular order for a large quantity of scones and tried to order from their Bakery in ...
Oh dear handbags at dawn. It's a shame it's at a situtation where disagreements can't just be discussed and solicitors have to be threatened.
This link should give you the agenda for tonight's meeting. http://www.dawlish.gov.uk/edit/uploads/885.pdf For those with a numerical inclination a scroll down to pge 8 will bring you to the draft budget for 2012/2013.
Coryton Close is fine but very difficult to find a space there days that's why I didn't suggest it, and if you want to be near the station it's just a couple of minutes walk from the Teignmouth Hill end of Westcliff Road. I am pleased to see that vehicle checks are carried out more than we realise, have seen two cars clamped for no Tax in Westcliff Road recently, the owners probably thought it ...
Don't have a problem with more social housing being provided. It's needed. I have a problem with the fact that presently much of it is only provided via developers being told that they have to provide some if they wish to build open market housing (which may or may not be needed). And the social housing problem in the 80s was aggrevated, then as now, by the Right to Buy legislation.......... ...
