Upottery slipped to a 3-0 defeat at Division Three leaders Dawlish United. Villagers boss Dan Prettejohn was clear as to why his side had produced a below–par performance. He said: “It was out first game since late November and that’s almost like starting the season again after such along lay-off! The players gave their all, but collectively it wasn’t good enough to get the better of a useful ...

If you look at the pile of crap that is left from the last auction at The Arms , you'll realise its just a dumping ground instead of going to the tip.

have to agree with you both. whilst others were closed over the festive and new year period they were heaving due to the number of tourists and families visiting relatives . I guess they took more money over the week than most places would take in a month in january and feb

One of the widest reaching consultations in Teignbridge District Council history reaches its next stage this week as the council seeks public views on the latest version of its 20 year plan for the area. The existing plan is now 15 years old and needs urgent updating if local communities are to avoid ‘planning by appeal’. Known as the ‘Preferred Options Core Strategy’, the draft plan shows ...

Maybe "Jools" was visiting town and was trying to fatten them up ahead of Sunday dinner?
It made me laugh that they had to import the rocks to fill the baskets, when the beach down there is full of rocks! Why don't the authorities get clearing away the rocks (large pebbles) at the very top of beach at the Warren, just before Groyne 1. It wouldn't be a waste of time as the tide rarely gets that high - and it would greatly improve visitor's (and local's!!!) first impressions of that fab ...
Happy New Year. I hope you enjoyed the Dawlish bank holiday sunshine - I did! A lovely walk around the town, a bite to eat in the Strand Cafe, a stroll down to Coryton Cove (very sandy again) and then popped into 1 or 2 shops. Back to reality and increased train fares tomorrow!

More than £400,000 is being spent on repairing flood defences which protect homes along a Devon estuary. A 200m stretch of defences is being repaired at Dawlish Warren by the Environment Agency. Rock-filled baskets along the sand dunes act as the "backbone" to protect the warren from the sea, a spokesman said. The work will last three months. The money will replace the baskets which have ...
I completely agree. A friend of mine suffered wanton drunken damage to their car about 18 months ago. The culprit was found, convicted and had to pay a victim's surcharge that paid to put good the damage caused.

OK, Nelson, I am going to shoot myself in the foot now, a very interesting read is the Revenge of Gaia, by James Lovelock. Gaia is an 'old' god but basically Nature, the point being is that Nature will take revenge on Man, quite passively by the problems we are beginning to see due to Climate change, due, in some part to our behaviour. I do find it difficult to refute the arguments and research of ...
THE Military Wives are set to march to the top of the Christmas charts this weekend — and their single has been flying off the shelves of South Devon. They have been eagerly watching Michelle's rise to fame with The Military Wives Choir, who ...

So....is the objection only to the meat lorry (because of the competition it gave Maunders) or is there a general view that stalls should not compete with shops or stalls with stalls? I ask as I seem to remember there were quite a few stalls selling cakes and savouries (so competing not only with each other and but also with any of the shops that were open selling the same). And several stalls ...
In a £17,000 burglary at a detached house in Mamhead, near Dawlish, more than 40 items of jewellery were taken, including sentimental inherited pieces. A Dawlish man appearing at Exeter Crown Court today for carrying out illegal dentistry practices has been warned he could face a possible prison sentence. Following an investigation by Devon County Council’s Trading Standards Service, Mr Stephen Sickelmore, 52, pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to three offences under the Consumer Protection From Unfair Trading Regulations 2008 - illegally ...
@J Warrener - and this makes it really difficult for those applying for a blue badge. I recently went through the procedure with an elderly family member who is wheelchair bound outside the home. They actually turned him down first time, even though it takes him anywhere up to half an hour to actually get out the car and into the wheelchair. The wrong people are dealing with the applications and ...
The difference between Alphington and Dawlish is 4p a litre , yet they are bought for the same price , so everytime you fill up at Sainsburys Dawlish they are sticking two fingers up to you and ripping you off. Marine Garage is 1p dearer. If you are driving from Dawlish and put the average fill in which is around 30 litres, it cost 30pence more to use Marine than sainsbury's but it will cost you ...
Is how the Strand should be all the time and a weekly market...but wont happen.

The way this discussion forum is structured it's much easier to keep track of a thread than it is on Facebook. People frequently revisit a subject long after the thread has gone 'cold' and revitalise it, as happened with this one. You wouldn't do that on Facebook. Please don't remove this forum.
More good coverage in the Gazette again. Well done all. PS don't worry I won't keep posting every week about this subject lol!
There's now a sign at the cashpoint saying that it's currently out of use. The one at the Co-op is working.
All the trees and their lights looked to be in place and switched on, when we walked round town earlier. It all looks very festive!
