On the subject of edible things, and I know it's not in Dawlish, there's a talk tonight at the Science Cafe in Teignmouth (The Oystercatcher) on the subject of insects you can eat. Apparently there'll be a cricket stir-fry to try. Useful to know when there's only us and insects left on the world (+ plants of course).

Pain in the ass lol. Still, got there in the end! :-)
I need someone to measure, make and then put up some new curtains. Do any of you have any recommendations?
I'd like to offer my agreement with the letter in the Gazette regarding the daff bulbs that are in full bloom along Exeter Road and at the Manor. Well done to all those concerned for their excellent POSITIVE action to visibily improve our town - I too appreciate the effort they made to brighten up Dawlish, and would hope everyone on here would do likewise.
For anyone who's interested in knowing more, it's worth checking what the BBC has to say, and the links from their article. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-17295078
thanks hedgehog, used to go in there a lot, senility setting in couldnt think of the name for the life of me lol
Yes. Thanks for explaining the rationale. It certainly would cost billions, but given the worst-case scenario of the line being washed away, there has to be an alternative.
Just had this back from Strongvox: "All of the labour that will be used at Swan's Rise will be of a sub-contract supply and fix or labour only nature. The best route to persue would be to visit the site office and make an enquiry their. For you information all sub-contract orders are not yet placed."
Good idea.. but dont think people realise what it costs to stock a shop up ..then the risk that people will not support. It normally takes 3 years to get known and start to profit, let alone be accepted!
I agree, Webmaster can you remove this thread please or lock it so no more postings can be made. Court listings will be out again Thursday and Im sure Nelson will be unable to help himself
Roberta, Yes thats the one re Windows, with me they said it was a problem with my laptop - I dont have a laptop, I also asked them what operating sysem was I using, they said Windows XP, Wrong again.

It was already posted before I realised, I will make sure I proof read next time
Dawlish is so unusual in having a main shopping street running alongside lawns, flowerbeds and a river with ducks and swans. There's nowhere else like it in the country. I think it's lovely!
I asked Alison Seabeck MP about it via Twitter, her reply was " @DawlishBlue Not my idea I was merely asked by BBC to comment and in my view it, along with a range of other ideas, should be discussed."
I have come back to explain my actions, certain things have been going on in relation to this forum but after discussion with the webmaster realise I was wrong to make this assumption. Without going into detail rest assured I had good reason to assume Id been hacked.
I can't argue with that Webmaster, well said!
I'm amused by being 'pleased' that big supermarkets like the Co-op are supporting this. The Co-op were pioneers in Fairtrade and have been big sellers of such products since Fairtrade started in 1992 and Sainsburys claim to be the World's Largest Fairtrade retailer having also been involved since day one.
Thanks for hat Lynne & Libby. Local MP is looking into it for me.
Teignbridge District Council (TDC) estimates 14,800 new properties need to be built over 20 years to cope with the growth in population. But protesters, who signed a petition, said figures had been over-estimated and would create a "concrete jungle". The petition was handed to the council as part of a public consultation, which ended earlier. Peter Large, a campaigner from Dawlish, said: "Tourism ...
I see, how exciting, something is actually happening!
The lansdowne quite often has gigs on Fridays or Saturdays. http://www.lemonrock.com/lansdowne?page=gigs
NiteRider The £2.00 NiteRider ticket can be purchased by anyone using Stagecoach South West services and travelling after 7pm until end of service. It is valid for unlimited travel within the times specified on all of South West buses.
It depends what time you want to shop. There are times when there are plenty of spaces on the Strand. Local food shops need to have free parking close by - if you have to get in your car to get to a shop and the local Supermarket has free parking but the local High Street doesn't, then that gives the Supermarket an unfair advantage.
It was very well run last summer, with attractive tables and chairs set out overlooking the beach. I used it a number of times. The people running it paint it before opening for the season. It must be difficult to keep it looking good because of the battering it gets from the sea in winter.
I'm popping in to buy some flowers on Saturday before work so I'll be sure to mention the picture. Though I'd hope that the 3 hole 'adventure' golf is just an artistic impression. One question however is where would Carnival events be held should this vision ever become a reality?
I think Dawlish Blue means the big supermarkets Nelson, and I think you know that just nit picking again!!!!!
A railway tunnel should be built under a hill near Exeter to divert the main line away from a vulnerable coastline route, a Devon MP has said. The line at Dawlish, which goes along the town's sea wall, can be hit by high waves. Plymouth Moor View Labour MP Alison Seabeck said a tunnel under Haldon Hill would lower risks to the line from any climate change and speed up journeys. Network Rail said ...

In summer, if the weather's nice, there's nowhere better than Dawlish Warren beach for keeping the kids amused all day - you don't need to run the gauntlet of airports, queues, etc. But only, of course, if you get fine weather - nothing worse than huddling together on a freezing cold beach. Also, of course, you need to take your own food as the takeaway food is rubbish and the service is dead ...
Just a reminder that if you haven't responded yet you have until 4.30pm Friday 2nd March to do so. This link should take you to the relevant online page - look to the right for the various aspects of the draft strategy including the proposals for Dawlish. http://www.teignbridge.gov.uk/index.aspx?articleid=15096 Lots in this week's edition of the Gazette about the proposed number of houses and ...

I too did the same walk thismorning it was lovely to see so many families enjoying the spring like weather.
A lovely time at Topsham, lovely estuary town, very unique followed by watching Black Swans win their area final on penalties!!!!!
So even as a commuter town Dawlish has something to offer. There are many reasons to live Dawlish othe than shops...
Yep, but that was recently, nothing to do with the time that Stokes opened in Dawlish and Teignmouth, at that time Stokes were a big group with 92 stores and a Head Office in Bristol.
