Has anyone noticed the appalling state of the gutters / kerb edges around the Elm Grove / Kingsdown Crescent area. Weeds and grass growing out of control.

Looks like a disused stretch of road and a real eyesore.

it's the same all over the country.

We are in a recession and the government/councils need to cut costs

You have a choice they cut costs and things don't look perfect or you pay more tax, your choice.

I guess most people that complain about these kind of services are probably people paying the lower rate tax or no tax.

You are entitled to go out there and tidy it yourself ( in fact in law you are responsible for the area in front of your house)

Many years ago people swept the fronts daily, when was the last time you swept your front path/road.

Point made

I don't mind tidying up the area in the street outside my house, sweeping the pavement & weeding, etc. but can I deduct the cost of my labour from my council tax bill?

You think I'm the mug, ha you pay top rate tax but live in elm grove area ? interesting choice.

Northerner has stated he is a top rate taxpayer therefore he earns in excess of £150,000 a year and pays 45% tax though he chooses to live in but a modest house.

Thank you so much for contributing so much to HMRC, you are in the top 12% of earners in the UK wow, well done.

Oh one other thing please can you stand up when you speak as your voice seems to be muffled by something (oh yes its your trousers)

Andysport, where did I say that i lived in the ElmGrove area ? I just said it was a mess - was visiting friends there over the weekend.

Are top level tax earners allowed to have friends in that area ?

once again well done, it would be interesting to know what you actually do as a job to earn £150k plus

bearing in mind your spelling and grammer are both pants, and you now state you are a top level tax earner  (is this a new name for the dole ??)

Try and guess my spelling error

You cook

Since when has GRAMMAR and spelling had any influence on the views portrayed on this or any other forum- people usually aren't picked up on these minor issues.

As for you petty comments on another thread (Lanny one), since when has how much you earn been anything to do with where you drink ? I usually drink in the Marine Tavern or Gresham (Laffin Pig), it was spelt like that (no "g") before you correct me.

Get a life, or better still, get a job.

Rumour has it that you don't even live in Dawlish !!!!!

Earnings vs level of education / profession are totally irrelevant in this day and age. You won't see Wayne Rooney on Mastermind !!!!

Would you care to divulge to me the nature of your new business venture ?

And finally, how on earth you had the brass neck to pull me up on my spelling or grammar is beyond me. Every single one of your posts has numerous errors.

Like I said, these are usually ignored on most forums.

Good Luck with the new business anyway, I am also a straight talker and mean that with all sincerity.

Might even bump into you in the Lanny now that you have recommended it. I'll be the one in the corner waiting to get served with my Pimms
