Plus of course paying people to do work then gives them money to spend (and yes I know that's stating the blinding obvious but I thought it needed saying) and if they have money to spend then they create demand and if they create demand then that demand must be met by supply and that supply is provided by others who in turn are being paid to work and who therefore have money to spend which in turn ...
This thread isn't about me. I notice that you fail to disagree about the fact that profiteering takes place. Be it the retailer or the supplier is semantics. I buy my petrol from a petrol station, and such minor technicalities are irrelevant when deciding which petrol station to use. The price, however, is very relevant.
If it stops the town centres around turning into no-go areas on too many nights of the week then it can't be a bad thing. Loads of youngters get very drunk at home on alcohol bought cheaply at supermarkets before they go out and then top it up with drinks bought at pubs and clubs. 24 hour licences helped to fuel this and they should also be banned. My elderly parents live on a route up from the ...
Yes, Bullingdon. The stuff of future prime ministers and mayors of London .......
Thanks Taverner. Shame. Seemed like a cunning plan that Baldrick would have been proud of!!
And the South West is the best region for Solar PV electricity production - theoretically every house could be a generator to cover its own needs and feed back into the grid - dramatically cutting dependency on carbon-fuel based power stations
We seem to be going round in circles. See my post above: "If we start from the premise that a couple who have children are actually providing a benefit to society then you get a different picture. Why are they providing ? - because it's their children who will keep society going, who provide the future economy, who do the building, who produce the food, who care for the increasingly aging ...
OK here goes: 1. Assume working population of 20 million 2. Assume 1% are earning more than £150,000 a year (i.e. the 50% tax bracket) 3. So this gives 200,000 in that tax bracket 4. Assume average tax kick-back for this group is £17,500 5. This is roughly equivalent to two people on minimum wage (i.e. £17,500 + JSA or income support for 2 people which state wouldn't have to pay (say £7000) = ...

Sorry, there weren't any. So, you could still be in line for a drop in income (because you'll no longer be getting the child tax credit) and/or the working tax credit if you can't find those extra hours that will bring you up to 24 per week if you are a couple with at least one child. Here's the info that I originally posted. Like I said, as far as I am aware, what is said in this link will deffo ...
The proposals as per originally put forward (see my first posting on the Child Benefit Reforms thread) have now been altered in today's budget. The situation is now as follows: A family with an income of below £50,000 pa will get CB. A family that has an income of (or has one of the two earner's earning) £50,000 -£60,000pa will still get CB but it will be tapered off bit by bit the nearer the ...
from today's Dawlish Gazette http://www.dawlishnewspapers.co.uk/news.cfm?id=10279&headline=Video will help boost bid for town money
Especially me why????? I'm all for a cracking Jubilee Week for those not at work, and have said so all along!!!! Good luck to you Huw and the rest of your RBL pals.
"Nelson 01/03/2012 FAO Webmaster. What other 'personal comments'? Just so as I can re-read them and understand what offence I have caused and to whom. Thank you. As for Martin Dix, he clearly stopped using this forum because he realised that he'd let slip his true identity!!!" Perhaps I could remind you of some comments you made under the 'Why?' discussion below.
Yet more reason not to go into Dawlish town centre?
Anybody who wants one here is the link http://www.edesix.com/products.html
The Working Poor. Bit of a long article but shows what it is like to be a poor but working family. Feel sure we have similar situations in the south west as well. http://www.guardian.co.uk/society/2012/mar/17/life-britain-working-poor
And who will be giving up their cars? No-one. Because modern living simply doesn't allow it. So pay up and enjoy paying your 80% tax for the good of the country.
I know Cassandra, think I am going to have to sprout wings and fly to work......
Used to work in CAB. The training is very intensive for a voluntary service & the workers are dedicated & caring. Always thought it was a shame when they closed in Dawlish. Good luck to Anne & Andy with the outreach service.

To put neilh's figure into perspective, a single water sprinkler uses approx 1,100 litres of water per hour. Hosepipes would use more.
As a lot of our Dawlish teenagers continue their education at Exeter College I thought it appropriate to post this on here. Well done to all concerned. (My daughter is very proud to be a student with you). http://www.exe-coll.ac.uk/News/Article.aspx?id=298

Have you noticed the parking sign at the Shoe Centre has been changed, it used to be three signs one saying - disabled bays - pay & display - no parking at any time - confused? so was the adjudicator who allowed a drivers appeal (not me I should add), the DfT also spotted the lines in the disabled bays were not authorised, they have since been blacked out. Devon CC "Having reviewed the sign and ...
I'm going to take a stroll around that neck of the woods this afternoon, after Sunday lunch at the Castle in Holcombe, and will have a look out for any clues as I too find the history of place names and street names to be fascinating. I enjoyed a lovely meal (always eating!!!) straight after work last night at the new Thai restaurant in Exeter and the lady whose leaving do we were out for is a ...
Thank you. i know we choose this life but it's not easy when you lose a member of your team.
On the subject of edible things, and I know it's not in Dawlish, there's a talk tonight at the Science Cafe in Teignmouth (The Oystercatcher) on the subject of insects you can eat. Apparently there'll be a cricket stir-fry to try. Useful to know when there's only us and insects left on the world (+ plants of course).
Pain in the ass lol. Still, got there in the end! :-)
I need someone to measure, make and then put up some new curtains. Do any of you have any recommendations?
I'd like to offer my agreement with the letter in the Gazette regarding the daff bulbs that are in full bloom along Exeter Road and at the Manor. Well done to all those concerned for their excellent POSITIVE action to visibily improve our town - I too appreciate the effort they made to brighten up Dawlish, and would hope everyone on here would do likewise.
For anyone who's interested in knowing more, it's worth checking what the BBC has to say, and the links from their article. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-17295078
thanks hedgehog, used to go in there a lot, senility setting in couldnt think of the name for the life of me lol
