History is more than just kings, queens, the exploits and dastardly deeds of the rich and powerful.  It is also the rich collection of anecdotes about ordinary folk which shape the nation we are.  Here's one about a Dawlish man .....

On 25th May 1876 a Dawlish man, one C. Lang, took a bet and probably in a fit of drunken bravado ran from the Teignmouth Inn in Dawlish to the Dawlish Inn in Teignmouth in 20 minutes.  Whatever the route he took in those days that was quite an achievement.  Maybe there's scope to emulate this feat today with a revival race - anyone in Dawlish Coasters interested?

If anyone else has any quirky historical anecdotes, how about posting them here?
