The paths along the Exeter Road and Sandy Lane are a disgrace, weeds are growing in the paths and kerbs, theres never a road sweeper around that area.

The outside of the toilets at the coach station are in desperate need of painting and if you are waiting for a coach and need to sit down forget it as the seats are broken.

I emailed our local council about my concerns and received a reply saying my email has been forwarded to the distric council who have a responsibility for that area.

Try walking from Marine Garage to Dawlish Warren via the Coastal Path - you need to take some shears with you !

There are letters of complaints in newspapers about this subject up and down the land. Ever since this government slashed local council budgets, verges everywhere have gone months between strims. It's a local issue, but it's a national disgrace.

I Believe that Devon County Council is responsible for roadside verges and it was they that said they would only cut twice a year, have they just announce a £15m surplus thats been added to reserves? Do what I have done and write to them asking that they spend a few hundred thousand tidying the paths and verges up.

I have just received an e-mail from the Customer Service System thanking me for bringing this matter to their attention. I also had an e-mail from a member of Dawlish Town Council agreeing with my original comments and will be contacting our County Councillor to find out if we get fair treatment with other towns in Teignbridge from the tight budget that Devon County Council has for this work.

Also the various broken seats will hopefully move up on Teignbridge Councils list of repairs.

As for the toilets at Sandy Lane another member of the public had sent an e-mail to Teignbridge Council last week complaining of the state of the toilets. I have now been informed that the exterior of the building is the responsibility of South West Water as they own the building and not TDC.

By coincidence I was looking at the council's website today about their responsibilities for weeds (in particular Ragwort which you see in abundance in their area of responsibility although private landowners can be prosecuted for it) and noticed that they no longer routinely spray footpaths and pavements for weeds. This came about after the Govt. budget cuts. I'm sure we've all noticed that they only cut those things that affect us or we see (such as the Re-cycling Centre at Shutterton, road sweeping and now weed control). They've acted like the kid who takes his/her ball home! I'm sure any one of us could walk into their offices tomorrow and find where money could be saved without affecting services.
