A member of the public spotted a carrier bag moving on the beach at Dawlish Warren. When they untied the bag they found a three-month-old kitten inside. The kitten is now been cared for at the RSPCA Little Valley Animal Shelter Exeter, and is healthy but was traumatised by its experience.

A children’s charity is looking for volunteers to help run a charity walk. The NSPCC Devon Hike Against Cruelty to Kids (HACK) takes place on September 11, and will see walkers covering 25 miles along the South West Coastal Path from Dawlish. The charity is now looking for people to assist with tasks such as registering entrants, manning check points and marshalling the route. The charity is also ...

Good to see the police have left the office shower and are finally doing something.Cant believe anyone would eat or drink in that dump.
Hells Bells, I will move this to news, what's-on or create a web page for it as I think it is important to accommodate all things relating to Dawlish on this site. Please bear with me on this for the time being. I think sometimes it is not clear where best to post things on here and it is tempting to post on the most popular section - the forum - but I have plans to improve this.
As the Tesco challenge to the TDC decision re Sainsbury's was heard by a judge - hence its being a judical review - I imagine Sainsbury's had a barrister asking questions of Tesco because they were legally entitled to do so. If anything legally untoward had happened at that judical review don't you think that Tesco/Sainsbury (delete as appropriate) would have made a fuss? Seems to me that the ...
Hmmmm, well I doubt that the Waterfowl Warden or the rest of the Town Council staff will be round long enough to do it - unless the new DTC get their act in gear and pay them properly. (Dawlish Gazette) I would be surprised if volunteers would be welcomed - nobody in the Council offices to do a risk assessment or ensure the insurance is in place.
At least 20 wraps of suspected heroin were seized by police in Dawlish following a morning raid on a town centre flat. Officers seized the 0.1g of the suspected class A drug which is believed to have a street value of around £200, plus a quantity of cash. A 21-year-old man was arrested for possession with intent to supply and has been bailed pending further inquiries. For the full article see: ...
Yes, Tavener, I know that. Not sure though how that negates the fact that the government, aided and abetted by the right wing press, have been stirring it up about public sector pensions so much so that there are now 'urban myths' about how great they are. I think the low(er) paid public sector employees may well have a completely different experience from that! And the bankers are paying ...
Thanks boot strap bill, I know now , slight printing error. Maybe you know more about it than I do!
Has anyone been in lately. I notice the young couple running it have put alot of hard work in to improve the place .Its a shame it was quiet. Six of us went in for a meal lately and i have to say the food was very good , and great value. The curries are excellant, grills were good, ham was fresh and so was the salad .Fish tasted good and the carvery look plentiful. If there is one criticism, that ...
It's stressful enough planning a wedding without receiving a email from your future mum-in-law detailing your many failings. But when the message, in which she says she pities your husband-to-be, becomes a global internet hit you know the Big Day is going to be a bit awkward. Heidi Withers, 29, received the rebuke from Carolyn Bourne, stepmum of her fiancé Freddie Bourne. The PA forwarded the ...

Fantastic! Thanks so much for letting me know. I'll have to take a look the next time I'm down there. Dawlish wouldn't be the same without it!
Perhaps the Police were in the £85,000 shower and couldnt hear thier radios.
Brazilnut, You are right they have renewed them.

Exeter Road's Marina Post Office was ram-raided this morning. Earlier, a local passer by snapped these photos. Apparantly a Vauxhall Astra was used in the raid although this has not been confirmed.
Dawlish beach has re-opened after it passes its latest water testing. The test results received on Saturday has given the beach the all clear. The source of the pollution remains a mystery.
Thank goodness for that. I dread to think what might have happened had someone followed the very obvious trail and had logged in as you...
Swimmers are warned yet again not to swim in the sea at Dawlish. Earlier in the month failed water test closed Dawlish beach to swimmers due to failed water testing, believed to have been caused by heavy rain. Further test gave the beach the all clear and the warning signs and red flags were removed. Subsequent samples were taken at various points after high levels of bacteria were found in the ...
Devon Partnership NHS Trust has received planning consent to proceed with the £30m redevelopment of Langdon Hospital in Dawlish. The plans for the site include extension of the existing buildings and the replacement of the Butler Clinic with a new 60-bed unit, which will be divided into four ward areas. It is hoped construction will start in the autumn with completion of the development ...
Tesco has lost its bid to build a store in Dawlish. Government inspector Stuart Nixon today ruled out proposals for a Tesco out-of-town store, bringing to an end three years of store wars wrangling against its rival Sainsbury's. He said: "Two stores would almost certainly damage the health of the town centre." For the full article see ...
Dawlish beach has re-opened to swimmers after passing an Environment Agency water quality test, having failed the previous two. Teignbridge District Council said it was continuing to investigate the cause and thought it might have been down to the recent bad weather. It said it had removed warning signs and red flags from the beach. On the most recent test on 21 June the beach attained the ...
Maybe this is what the council is waiting for a new and modern car park!
007 ..Tesco are already in Dawlish... they own One Stop.. Settle down now Sainsburys will open soon and I cant see why Dawlish should be the only town in the country with no big store...other towns survive, Crediton panicked when Tesco opened and they have Morrisons too, the town is doing ok because people dont stear clear of it, they have to go through the town as you do Dawlish. as for LIDL they ...
In other words absolutely nothing is going to happen as per all the 'plans' and promises of many previous years. Never mind, am sure we will have another survey next year. We can't even have a Tesco for Dawlish, I think the town will be closed in another few years.
Does anyone know if Bow Windows serves alcohol?
Looks like another Dawlish business has fallen quietly by the wayside. Hiremasters Ltd on Dawlish business park closed on Friday. The company started and run for many successful years by the late Mr. P. Matthews and responsible for the construction of most of the more respectable buildings on the estate will be sadly missed by those who knew and worked for the family. Good luck to Mr. D. Brown and ...
Exeter College have got a bursary fund which might be of help for those on low incomes with teenagers studying at the college. I am sure other 16-18 year old education providers (eg Bicton College and VIth form colleges?) may have similar schemes so worth contacting them for info. For Exeter College contact: Jill Clark, Student Welfare Administrator, Exeter College. Tel 01392 205526 email ...
Anyone else spotted the methodological flaws in this survey........like (and as with the Dawlish by-election polling card issue that I've highlighted on a separate thread) unless: 1. You have a computer ( and go on Dawlish.com - and let's face it not that many do) 2. You buy the Dawlish Gazette (not all do) 3. You read the freebie Dawlish Post (and not all do that either) You are not that likely ...
When it used to be Sharifs (not sure of spelling) the pizzas were one of the best around, especially the chilli meat ones. I don't know where you get a decent pizza anymore. Also, I wish they would stop this stupid bogof malarkey and just charge a sensible price in the first place. I was caught out by a bogof in Exeter and paid double what I should have. I had gone to pick them up for my ...

Dawlish beach remains closed today as it failed a routine test which is carried out frequently during the summer season. Further samples of the water have been taken and the results should be known by Friday. It is thought that the heavy rainfall on Sunday is to blame.
Congratulation wilo, im glad my letter played a small part. Perhaps the council will now look into Richard Bland and his antics, which have wasted taxpayers much needed funds. As the vote was so unanimous then clearly he had an agenda.Perhaps his suitability for the job should be looked into as clearly he has no idea what councillors or the general public think.
