I know this subject has been talked about before but i think it needs mentioning again. The price of petrol is a total rip off at the store. The shell garage(topsam rd) at exeter is FOUR pence a litre cheaper, sainsbury srore marsh barton FOUR pence a litre cheaper. Marine garage a small privately owned garage is only 1p dearer. Come on people of Dawlish , its time to boycott them until they give us a fair price. There is no justification of it. It cost them about £20 more to run a lorry from Exeter to here.If you work out how many litres it delivers, it makes no difference yet they are recouping that money after about 10 people have filled there cars. The rest is extra profit made taken from the pockets of us. It costs you more to drive to sainsburys from dawlish than it would to fill up at marine at the extra penny cost.

DAWLISH GAZETTE ISNT IT TIME YOU HAD THIS ON YOUR FRONT PAGE AND DEMANDED ANSWERS ON WHY WE ARE BEING RIPPED OFF.

Last time it was mentioned on here the price quickly fell in line for a short time. They dont like bad publicity.Time it happened again, but this time we must stop them putting it up again.

Thought everyone on here LOVED Sainsbury's with their cheap prices, lots of well paid jobs, not to mention everything they where doing to help regenerate the town and surroundings. Last of all the non existing employment units which had to be built under section 106.

Dawlish was conned into the need for a supermarket by the back pocket crooks at TDC. Lets all support the need for a ASDA to be built across the road and watch the pricing policy fall into line then. On second thoughts that wouldn't work either because Tesco tried that and TDC just invited Sainsbury's legal team to attend the planning appeal.

The TRUTH is only profit matters, find out at tonights exhibition at the Red Rock Centre where an unknown company is presenting a housing development of 350 properties on land earmarked for commercial and employment use only. Ask the TDC planning representatives present to explain that one and what commercial links the developer has to Sainsbury's themselves

Just to add more insult to the situation do you think Sainsbury's dont talk about local pricing with the supplier at Marine Garage (Texaco) perhaps you should ask Mrs store manager where their fuel comes from. Wouldnt be the storeage and distribution depot at Plymouth by any chance would it you know the one owned and operated by (Texaco).

It's not just Sainsburys. After the Co-op had been refurbished it was pointed out in a letter to the Gazette that prices in Dawlish are significantly higher than in their Teignmouth store. It seems it's fair game to rip off people in Dawlish.

All the multi-nationals have and use a country wide area grading scale pricing map which gives each store a pricing grade based on its location and what they should be able to charge to maintain a targeted level of business. Dawlish I believe is grade 5 while Teignmouth is 3-4 hence the price difference. An inner city shop in Birmingham for instance would be grade 1-2, it means cheaper prices because the customer has more choice of store and will not pay the higher prices.

They support this pricing structure by playing the Green environmental card i.e. shop local instead of Newton and Exeter and you will save the planet.

Support the cheapest retailers like TRAGO shell branding and always 1 or 2 p less.

One other thing as Don hinted on when they loose their targeted sales level they will lower the price, however don't make the mistake of automatically giving them back your business or they will soon increase prices again.

All business is for profit, nobody is forcing you to get petrol at Sainsburys go where it's cheaper, I thought that's what everyone did.

Petrol at Countess Wear is only a penny cheaper than at our Saino's. It's the same price as our Saino's at the privately owned 'BP' garage at the Matford roundabout. MoH, how much is it at your privately-owned 'Texaco' garage?

Who told you I own a private ' Texaco' garage then, and just for interests sake where is it and what is my current petrol price?

Steady on tiger! ;-) No-one told me anything. I genuinely asked you how much it is at the petrol station that you champion on here, but only because I don't know. I have no vested interest.

@ SBATT43

Never got a written reply on that one, so I think we all missed something. At the time I was told that they were the main objector to the Tesco/Ladys Mile application and so were entittled to attend and have a say at the Juditial review.

So you go to Exeter to fill up to save 4p a litre 60 litres saving £2.40 cost to run a car to Exeter and back wear and tear insurance fuel and time a lot more than £2.40 if you where saving 10p a litre it still wouldn't make sense. I think you should all ask if Sainsburys wasn't there what would the price of fuel be at Marine Garage ??

No if you are passing through Exeter you fill up,rather than being robbed by Sainsburys . If you live in dawlish you use Marine garage rather than being robbed by sainsburys. not difficult is it. Its for sainburys to justify why they charge 4 5 or even 6 pence a litre more than at its store in exeter and for the Dawlish Gazette to ask why this is happening. If your happy to be robbed by them then thats your choice and you have more money than sense.

J.WARRENER I just think you don't like Sainsburys i used to go to Exeter to shop at Tesco but we now have Sainsburys so i no longer have to go to Exeter. Sainsburys are not stupid there price reflects the cost of going to Exeter they know its not worth going to save 4p or even 10p. If for arguments sake there was a difference of 15p per litre a saving of £9.00 on a 60 litre tank it would be break even taking into account tax wear and tear breakdown cover etc etc. And your argument about marine garage makes no sense why pay more when Sainsburys is cheaper you use them its you who must have more money than sense its like buying a cabbage in town for £1.60 plus parking when Sainsburys is 80p and parking is free personally i would like to see Sainsburys expand double the size would be good

lpg is the way to go . much cheaper.

MugOnHead

19 May 2012 22:06

Not that easy to get hold of LPG cars these days though. Vauxhall and Volvo stopped offering the conversion as a standard option three years ago. This means an aftermarket conversion at a cost of between £1,000-£1,750. In addition filling stations are quite few and far between due to the restrictions placed on the location of storeage tanks. Allthough as Sniper says it is cheaper at the pump, converting an old car is not a cost effective alternative.

The claims made by the conversion kit manufacturer's regarding mileage and performance should also be taken with a pinch of salt, as both will reduce by at least 5% compared to running on petrol. You are also lugging around a heavy extra tank usually restricting boot space or the ability to carry a spare wheel.

Marine Garage 1p cheaper on Derv than Rip off Saino's today, proves Warreners point dont you think

The point it proves is because of Sainsburys they have to be competitive as i have already stated what would the price be if Sainsburys where not there

@flo

The service at Firbank Garage after Mr Downey was down to changing regulations relating to health and safety and public liability something he never bothered with. Most independant filling stations can assist people in real need, but should not have to provide attended service for bone idle people who just cant be bothered to get out of their cars. Eventually Marine Garage will probably give up unless more people use it then the people of Dawlish will NEED a supermarket

MOH

You call it bone idle, I call it customer service! I know things change but he used to brighten my day when I stopped for petrol. Its the same reason I shop at Sampsons - for the service.

@leatash

Dawlish branch of Sainsbury's now proved without doubt to be a total rip off. They only reduced their Diesel price by 2p not the adverised 3p. Justify that if you can.

Its still the same argument if you want to travel to Exeter to save nothing then do so and while you are on your way to Exeter consider your contribution to global warming at least Sainsburys considered that when they built a low carbon store This post has nothing to do with fuel price its to do with peoples dislike of Sainsburys, Tesco, etc just get used to it they provide what most people want CONVENIENCE everything on one site food, fuel, car vac etc and with Dawlish expanding with 2000 new homes maybe they will build a larger store so we have more CONVENIENCE

For the last few weeks I've had reason to be driving around all over the UK, and discovered the price of petrol varies by as much as 10p a litre in different areas. Can't believe everyone is getting so excited by the price of petrol at Sainsburys in Dawlish.

Simple really, if you don't like the price at Sainsburys then don't buy there!!!!!

Sainsburys to reduce fuel prices again from midnight the reduction could be up to 3p a litre

J.Warrener

But there only catching up with everyone else that had already reduced. I found 126.9 yesterday ,so filled up. Leatash your charging 6p more a litre . Marine is only a penny dearer , so unless you are shopping at sainsburys, by the time you have driven from dawlish it works out dearer taking into account the petrol you use.
