Dawlish Town Council has announced the sale of 34 Park Road to the Teign Housing Association for the sum of £120,000. The building was purchased for £165,000 by the Council in 2010 and, with the sale of the Manor House, was going to be a new Municipal building for the town. However, the council backed down from the sale of the Manor House after local residents objected to it.
The sale of the building at a loss of £45,000 represents a drop in price of over 27% - significanty greater than the 3% - 4% drop in residential prices recorded by the Land Registry over the same period.
Cllr Pauline Bloomfield, Mayor of Dawlish, would like us to consider the loss "an investment of £45,000 in the provision of social housing in the town".

Is she not forgeting the cost of the interest paid over the years, where does she keep her brain or does she sit on it.
It's amazing how these people put a positive spin on an apalling situation. So the council would have given £45,000 if asked! Here we go I'll now put my spin on their spin. Dawlish Town Councils policy is to provide funds to assist local builders to provide cheap sustainable housing for local people. I don't think so.
I suspect if someone went cap in hand asking for assistance the reply would be a polite NO!
