Last I heard the feasibility study that was done said that it wasn't financially viable so the plan was dropped.

no money was available for it either.

It was the baby of cllr vickery when he was chair of the community trust so worth asking him.

That reminds me about the new 'Millennium Bandstand' which was supposed to be built, yes, you guessed it, at the start of the new Millennium.

I wonder what happened to the money that was put by for it to be built?

Whose pocket(s) did that end up in?

For the life of me I cant understand why we would need anything like this anyway, we have The Strand Centre for art exhibitions/crafts etc and enough restaurants in the town. Keep the Lawn for what it is intended a pleasant open green lesiure area. I know there are plans to put a childrens play area and upgrade the bandstand but Im sure that will be up for public consultation

The glass arts centre and performance stage were as I recall a dream of councillor Prowse.

This is Dawlish, not Totnes.  Some Councillors have strange ideas.  The Lawn should be left for the recreation of locals and visitors.

Would be nice to have more choice though, not as varied as Tower Hamlets or eclectic as Totnes but appropriate for Dawlish.   The Bandstand's biggest problem as I see it is not just the poor condition but the way the design restricts the type of activity that can be carried out there.   I doubt however that enough money will be found in the forseeable future to build a replacement, so those who love its "unique" character can probably sleep easy

What a very odd comparison to make; Dawlish, Totnes and the London Borough of Tower Hamlets.  Is there some relevance, I'm presuming you once lived in Tower Hamlets.
