Its not only Tesco a number of other retailers are affected including Iceland, Lidl and Aldi but i notice Tesco are the only company to offer a apology to their customers. At the end of the day its not so bad when i was a child we ate horse meat on a regular basis its very tasty i wonder if its still sold it makes a great Sunday joint.
Tesco and others are trying to increase profits by beating the suppliers and farmers
into lowering their prices to them.
So what whether our health will not be affected when they sell horse instead of
beef the supermarkets are responsible.
"Every little helps" you bet
The fact that the majority both of burger and beef meal products contained pork DNA might be of concern to a lot of people. It would be surprising if the meat plants named are unusual.
Professor Reilly said, "Whilst, there is a plausible explanation for the presence of pig DNA in these products due to the fact that meat from different animals is processed in the same meat plants...."
and
"Likewise, for some religious groups or people who abstain from eating pig meat, the presence of traces of pig DNA is unacceptable."
Faith may play a part in what people eat, what is more important is our
faith in what we all eat and pay for to supermarkets.
How about a new saying "Horses for Courses"
Apart from the little old lady who swallowed a fly, I can't see anyone having a problem with horse (unless it is supposed to be beef.)
My answer to supermarkets is to use my local butchers and fruit and veg. shops (I am hoarse with saying it.)
We eat loads of things that are in our food here are a few of the strangest
L Cysteine made from human hair and duck feathers used in bread products
Castoreum made from beaver perineal gland used in rasberry and strawberry flavourings
Lanolin made from sheeps wool used in chewing gum
Gelatin made from boiled bones, tendons, and skin used in jelly
Isinglass made from fish swim bladders used for the clarification of beer
This raises the question are all the vegitarians out there realy vegitarians or are they consuming animal products without knowing
Maybe we're just a bit fussy here;
I couldn't resist this!!
We’ve eaten horse, we feel remorse.
What used to gallop is now escalope,
medallion of stallion, well done or rare,
fruits de mare.
Astride them we ride them,
we pace them, we race them.
They’re skittish, we’re British.
It’s just our way, say ay or neigh
that they should stay
in fields of green not wither unseen
from stable to dining table.
We’re British.
With hand on the halter we falter
and so we lag in eating nag.
It’s quite obscene, akin to murder,
no fitting end
for man’s close friend
to be a blend
of mince in a Tesco burger.
That's so funny I could hardly rein in my laughter.
(Ps Do you think that all this fuss is a bit er.........well you know........a bit like er...... well........ a bit like the proverbial shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted?)
Can’t believe a woman was sent to hospital after eating a horse meat burger……its ok Her condition is said to be stable.’
Was she was taken to the mane hospital in Canterbury by any chance? And did she jump the admissions queue?
‘I bought a burger at Tesco’s cafe, the waitress said “would you like anything on it?”, I replied “a fiver each way “.’
I’ve found it tough lately working on the Tesco meat counter. I feel like I’m flogging a dead horse.
Is eating horsemeat really that bad? Let’s put it to the vote. All those in favour say ‘aye’, all those against say ‘neigh.
I hear that they are putting uniQuorn in the veggie burgers too.
I got some Tesco burgers out of the freezer earlier aaaaaannnnndddddddd.... they’re off!
What next? My Lidl Pony?
I've tried Sainsbury's and Tesco burgers and I have to say Tesco wins by a nose.
Traces of zebras found in Tesco barcodes (my favourite!)
I bet Tesco hate being saddled with this story. Their PR agency must be bridling too. They'll just have to get the bit between their teeth.
I expect this only relates to those mini-burgers you have as snacks. You know, the horse d'oeuvres.
(I can't claim credit for any of those!)
