It's such a pity that the new paving slabs looks so dirty, really who decided the colour? They are already discoloured with stains and car tread marks whilst vehicles mount the newly paved areas, it is disgraceful that so much money has been spent on such a poor design/colour.

Look outside the Co-Op and Wee Shoppe Bakery and see the stains wherever they came from and the project has not yet reached completion yet or are the contractors going to steam clean once they've finished? The entrance to the Strand car park is severely discoloured as well!

And why have different colour slabs been used dotted around the area as well?

@goldenlad

(1)  The colour and material of the paving was part of the original public consultation in the Strand Church

(2)  I raised the need for regular cleaning of the new pavement with TDC and Cllr Stuart Barker (Lead Member for Resources) at TDC has given assurances.

(3) The Contractors will be cleaning the pavements at the conclusion of their work.

(4) I think your reference to different colours is about areas immediately outside certain shops.  The taxpayer paid for work to what is known as "The public realm".  The area immediately outside shops is private land, and the owners were given the opportunity to buy into the scheme and pay for their areas to be done at the same time.   The majority sensibly took up this offer, but a few did not.

This will be a great time.

All we need is good weather, great music and several galleons of cider. Ye Ha!

After enduring all the construction the noise, the dust, the dirt on the Strand these past couple of months I am going to miss the grand opening as I'm in the States for a couple of months. Yesterday first day back in America and of course jet lag really gets you, but today feeling great. Did shopping and filled my car up with petrol forty eight dollars (48) to fill a eighteen gallon tank that's thirty one pounds (31) Cigarettes four dollars (4) a pack of twenty that's two pounds sixty three (2.63). Last night my wife, daughter and myself went out to dinner middle of the road restaurant was sixty dollars that would be about forty pounds (40) that included starter, main course steaks, drinks and desert. The point I'm trying to make it really shows how people in the UK are ripped off.

That's because we have to subsidise our colonial cousins ;-p But on the plus side, we don't have to pay 250k for a hip replacement :-D

Apparently the RBL are putting up a Kindle Fire on their raffle boards. Now that is something worth winning and speculating a few quid on!

Hi Chef. I could have done with you within days of you leaving; one of my chefs broke her arm! Don't fancy coming back for a few weeks do you?lol

Saturday's Events

Has anyone got an up to date 'timetable' of events for that day, along what music can be expected?

@ Huw

Wow, that sure is a great prize and as you say, worth a couple of quid.

Why is the road being closed again, and is this going to be a regular occurance. All part of the councils preferance for pedestrianisation maybe.

Speaking of councillors, watch them all turn up for the chance of getting their mugshots in the paper at Saturdays official opening like they have all done the work themselves. Then no doubt back up the Manor house for a slap up lunch paid for by the tax payer. Bet the workers from JTT dont get an invite

The Strand improvements workers have done an excellent job.

Working seven days a week, from very early until late each day to finish it in time for the bank holiday.

The quality of the workmanship is absolutely top notch.

Many thanks! yes

Many congrats to Alec Fewings and his fellow members of Dawlish RBL Branch Committee for organising Party in the Park.

It was brilliant.

Something for everyone and well done for giving the group from the community college an experience that hopefully they will build on. smiley
