Call received from staff at the Langstone Cliff Hotel, Warren Road in Dawlish Warren, Devon to reports of a fire at the rear of the premises.
1 fire appliance from Dawlish and 1 from Teignmouth were mobilised to the incident.
On arrival crews found a fire at the rear of the Hotel involving the plant room, chimney flue and a flat roof measuring approx 100m by 40m. Crews requested further assistance. 2 fire appliances from Torquay and 1 from Paignton were mobilised along with a command unit and support pump from Totnes and an aerial ladder platfrom from Exeter Danes Castle.
Crews extinguished the fire using 6 breathing appartus wearers, 2 hose reel jets, 1 safety jet, 1 covering jet, thermal imaging camera, small tools and 2 short extension ladders. This incident also contained asbestos which was dealt with locally.
The cause of the fire was accidental and duty of care was left with hotel staff.
I think the Langstone Cliff Hotel were very lucky to have a fire engine able to turn up
as it seems some units were doing a Dick Van Dyke over a bloody seagull.
