South West Water and the Environment Agency are working to improve Dawlish brook by clearing the silted up waterway which runs through the centre of the town to the sea.

A computer-generated model of how the water flows from higher up outside the town all the way to the beach will be created.

Dawlish Town Council has agreed to pay £3,000 towards the work, Devon County Council £5,000 and Teignbridge Council £10,000.

There have been calls to dredge the brook, but experts say it is necessary to look futher upstream to see where the sediment is coming from.

Farmers growing different types of crops are thought to be associated with the problem. Managed flushing of the brook is being looked at also opening sluice gates and introducing more sluices.
