DAWLISH TSW Juniors Octopush teams started their new season in Plymouth last weekend with a resounding series of wins in a three-cornered tournament against the hosts, Plymouth, and Dunstable.
They finished the day undefeated, dismissing all opposition ruthlessly.
All three age groups – U10, U12 and U14 enjoyed similar successes.
The U12 teams had such strength in depth that two squads were fielded, both beating the opposition, before playing off against each other.
The U10 team played Plymouth back-to-back wining 6-5 and 5-3 in what was, for many, their first taste of competition.
The team comprised George Corey, Louis Atkins, Seb Curle, Joel Davis, Leah Kelley, James Strutt and Theo Mortimer.
At U12 level, Dawlish fielded two equally accomplished teams. Caleb Pullen, Oliver Johnston, Aidan Leigh-Brown, Josh Cooper, Joe Broom, Joe Smith and Morley Atkins were nominally Team X, while Team Y comprised Lewis Bartlett, Toby Curle, Ted Ironside-Smith, Guy Ashworth, Caitlin Johnston, Daisy Wright, Paige Connelly and Carrie Strutt.
Team X started with a perfunctory 9-0 dismissal of Plymouth, with Team Y beating Plymouth 7-1. Team Y went on to beat Team X 3-1.
Dawlish U14s crushed Dunstable 19-0 and Plymouth 15-0, a revealing measure of the team's improvement.
Already British National Champions at U14 level, last season saw the tightest of fixtures against the Plymouth team. In the final of last season's National Championships in Leeds the sides were locked at 2-2 at full time and after extra time.
It took a sudden-death 'Golden Goal' by Dawlish TSW to win the title.
The team of Laurence Ashworth, Oliver Curle, Lucas Bagnald, Gemma Morgan, Kieran Tucker, Elliot Wilkinson and Louis Pyper can be particularly proud of their performances last weekend.
On the basis of these matches the South West Regional teams will be selected to compete in the British Regional Tournaments. Dawlish players can expect a dominance in the South West squads.
