I telephoned for a taxi yesterday and was very pleasantly surprised. The Driver arrived, took my suitcase and placed it in the boot and then drove me to my desired destination. All this in return for money. Unbelievable!

To the person who decided to let loose with a saw on one of the trees on the green at Gatehouse Rise. Why? What reason could somebody possibly have to come out in the middle of the night with a saw and cut a huge part of one of the trees down, leaving a dangerous mess behind them? Does anyone have any idea as I am at a loss to know what the purpose of this was. The tree's always been there and ...
Can anyone explain why Dawlish Warren has such a tacky reputation? With such a beautiful area, why is it spoilt with so many tacky pubs and camps? As somebody explained on an earlier thread, "it's certainly not upmarket". It seems the Warren is a prime example of the junk culture that is spreading throughout this country of ours. Not that the owners of these places care ......as long as they make ...
Is there some independent authority that monitors and investigates councillors?
I'd be keen to find out if any of the 'mare's' Dawlish property has required planning of any sort.
Good point. Well done to the Ugly Duckling and a really good business run by nice people. They deserve to do well.
If we are to keep such pomp and badge of prestige, then change the rules so ALL residents of Dawlish get to vote who wears the pretentious chain. Rather than the inner-sanctum of the dozen or so cronies who seem to perpetually vote each other.
Hi, We know Dawlish well, we try to holiday there every year and are due back in a couple of weeks staying in Dawlish Warren. Our little boy is know at the age where he would love to go rock-pooling. Is there anywhere close by for this? Or even not so close by. We usually get out most days as far as Brixham. We have never really expored that far off the main beach areas. Thanks SJ
The picture on the front page of the Dawlish Post has answered the question I posed to start this thread. The gentleman looks as if he is on the slippery slope.
TRY OAKCLIFF HOLIDAY PARK,GREAT VIEWS AND DECENT CLASS OF RESIDENTS.
I suppose the councillors of Teignmouth will eventually jump through the same hoop as the councillors of Dawlish did, they wasted thousands-------for what? Who had a hand in that? Well one was a long forgotten councillor, the rev Dr Tom Bush. He sat on a working group (which wasn't even quorate)and voted the firm that won the contract. They (the working group) two councillors and a nobody didn't ...
Oh...There is one thing exciting that happened. Joey saw a number 2 in the sea. Didn't you Joey? Go on...Tell them about it
The much anticipated £27,000 revival of the Manor Gardens play area at Dawlish opened this week. It's the end of a long voyage as the new pirate ship play equipment is installed after the two month journey from the U.S.A. to England. In an arson attack last year much of the play park was destroyed. Over the course of the year Teignbridge Council managed to save the money to restore the area to its ...
Bob, You also raise a very interesting point. I wonder how willing the Protheroe's would be to revert the land they have built such ghastly apartments on, back to allotments? After all, they do 'so much' for their community..... But we all know that whatever they do, it is just a ruse to facilitate the building of their empire.
Teignbridge Council granted itself planning permission for a scheme which is planned to alleviate flooding at Hazelwood camping and Chalet Park. The storm pumping station will turn itself on automatically when the Park is in imminent danger of being flooded. As soon as risk of flooding has receded the two submersible plumps which will lift water from a storage lagoon in Hazelwood Park to the ...
Viaduct, you stated(post 12th may) that "anyone in Dawlish that spent £50 on clothes is an idiot" yet you accuse me of talking Gibberish" Yet you claim that you have never run the people, kids or shops of this town down. You've just called half the people in Dawlish idiots , and more to the point , you've called yourself an idiot. If you claim you have never spent £50 on clothes in your life then ...

Never been to the greasy spoon myself but have passed it on the bus many times. As there is always an element of safety in the blurb that emanates from him (Protheroe) from time to time, I notice several times because of the parking arrangements they have, how pedestrians are forced to walk in the road when they try and pass the greasy spoon. Now wouldn't you think that a man of his so called ...
Bardwell, The reason my postings echo those of others is because, like them,i have become disillusioned with this secretive council of ours. And i am not alone;there are many others, all new to this site, who will begin to express their distrust of the people who claim to represent us and not themselves in local government. Why do you resent such debate? Are you part of that 'inner circle' ...

I doubt the new Mayoress will be any different as she has been trawled from the same pool of 'inner circle' back-slappers(so much for true democracy heh?!). Ex Mayor Prowse passed me in the street the other day, with her usual pretentious demeanour. At first, i thought the spring blossom was stronger than normal, then quickly surmised that it was her over-powering perfume. It was enough to stun a ...
Dawlish Blue is brilliant and the sort of thing we need. I hope they are successful. The Town Council should put signs to advertise them and Vivians Gallery, Breaking Wind etc.,this part of town needs to be kept alive and kicking.
yes there is the dawlish rep and the amature operatic society and they are always open to new members
Friends and family of a missing Dawlish woman are appealing for her to make contact. Gillian Roberts, 54, was reported missing by friends on Tuesday evening after she failed to answer her door at around 9pm. She is described as 5ft 11in tall and of slim build. She has short blonde hair and although it is not known what she was wearing at the time she went missing, she is habitually well dressed. ...
I've only just recently bought a few things on ebay and my son wanted to sell some nintendo DS games which he managed to get a good price for, you do have to pay an insertion fee and also a final value fee when the item sells but if he had taken them into a game shop he would probably only have got half the price. If you are selling your own used stuff then you wouldn't need to inform the Inland ...
Where would one be able to find out these things? I've noticed that not all crimes and things are reported in Dawlish so don't say old newspapers!
Completely agree. There is a large car park within walking distance and could you imagine how nice The Strand and Brunswick Place could be? Decent cafe's, shops and bars, outside tables, nice lighting etc etc. And all overlooking what could be a fab park and gardens with entertainments etc. What a place we could have!
I think the wotsit might hit the wotsit again the minute Tesco go public on their next crazed idea for Dawlish. (Ooops! Sorry!.That's supermarkets again isn't it)
Hi! I heard that rumor, too and I didn't like it. I'm afraid they will rip up the coastal line altogether. This should not happen. It's part of the history of Dawlish, the Great Western, and above all my vivid childhood memories. An alternative route for winter - fine, but they should let us have the beautiful route for the summer!

Tesco has confirmed it has dropped its controversial plans to build a store at Sandy Lane, Dawlish. The land at Sandy Lane which is used by Dawlish Town Football Club is no longer a consideration. The company has said it will be unveiling plans for a store at another site within the next few weeks.
Understand this will come before TDC Development Control Committee on Monday 23rd June.
Looks to me like a result, maybe a bit bigger next time but well done!
If you knew the price of the box (80p) before hand.. you had two choices...Pay up or not. If you weren't a tourist, why couldn't you have taken the meal home and divided it on a plate for your children. You always have choices.
You might well be right there Ziggy and what a delight Dawlish would then be - not.
