I have noticed on many occasion especially with some writers to this forum, how they imagine what is happening, instead of expanding their brain cells and open them up to reality.
I will give an example of how some tarnish the motorist as speeders, when in reality most are not.
Dunchideock, a nice little village just below the Haldon Hill.
People complained that the speed of traffic in and around their village was intolerable, Devon County Council carried out speed checks to confirm or deny the alleged speeding traffic by placing devices at various points to check the volume and the speed of traffic. Here is the result of one test, although they all paint a similar picture.
School Lane, 85% drove down hill at speeds below 30 Mph and uphill at 27 Mph. None drove more that the NSL. Whether some still consider those speeds to be excessive is open to debate and here is the rub if they do.

Councillors (yes I am knocking councillors as they spend our money without good cause)) will seize on complaints such as this as they could show they did something, when in reality they did nothing to reduce the speed of traffic. What they actually do is transfer taxpayers money to private enterprise (for reasons best known to them) to carry out the work of putting in speed reducing obstacles.

Take Dawlish Warren, speed pads abound; they only slow the car and nothing else. Lorries, buses and all wide vehicles can straddle them, motor cycles can by-pass them and all that at very great expense to the tax payer.
What do slow the traffic are curb to curb humps, but that is too simple and too cheap.
