Its not "newcomers" its people with holiday homes that are vacant most of the year and its the large influx of retired people who can afford expensive housing haveing sold a home that has little or no mortgage the penthouses in the old cinema in Teignmouth started at £500,000 new conversions in Teignmouth and Marine Parade start at around £200,000 there is no afforable housing being built for ...

Just received a phone call from Teignbridge. Apparently the toilets at sandy lane are closed for safety reasons, something to do with a faulty top grid on the door. He said hopefully it will be repaired sometime today
Well I was 'positive' about the new Coop and who was the first to rubbish that? lol. Re that.. will Tesco give to the Carnival Committee like the local shops in Dawlish here are expected to. There is nothing wrong with Dawlish, the World, just the people in it.
Thanks for that I will look into it
If you do move to the area please do think of the town and put your money into the area you have chosen to move to. Dawlish has many lovely shops and if time is taken you will find a lot of things between Dawlish and Teignmouth to spend your money on instead of going out to Tesco or such like.
I haven't seen any critiscm about Dawlish shops on this site????
cant agree with you I encouraged my kids to leave what is there here for the Ah yes pubs expensive acomodation and black swans!

The famous black swans of Dawlish are 'fleeing' the resort because they are at risk from being savaged by dogs, it is being claimed.Locals say the Brook, where the swans 'live', has silted up so badly in places, that dogs can wade out and attack them and other exotic waterfowl. Now there is a call for the waterway to be dredged to maintain a good level. Three swans left for an 'awayday' on Friday, ...
'Who cares' hmmm that just about sums Dawlish up. I notice the shop for sale in the Strand, a chance for a local to open something you say is needed. Who is brave? .. you need to be as you wont get local trade. Thank goodness for holiday trade.
There are a few middle-aged people in Dawlish who (slightly unadventurously) have lived in the town for their entire existence, but are there any who in the course of their life have never left Dawlish even for a day trip? i.e never been east of Langstone Rock or west of Smugglers Inn?
Unfortunately Steve there is always a minority that don't like to see other people having fun - jealousy makes you nasty. Dawlish wouldn't survive without people like you spending your hard earned cash in our town. Keep Dawlish tidy and have a great holiday!
Now that the smoking ban has kicked in and it is an offence to drink outside the pub £75 smackers if you are caught, make sure CCTV can't see you. If it can, then you could also end up paying another £75 smackers for dropping your butt on the ground(litter). You have been warned and it could be a costly drink.
Before I get any rude comments, my apologies for the heading CCTC which of course should be CCTV

Well said ! You know people can always say to the Estate Agent .. 'I do not want to sell at that high price, sell it for less'. I was in Sussex last week, houses are more expensive there than Dawlish. I see there is a shop in the middle of town for sale, a chance for a local in Dawlish to set up something you keep wanting? .. but then they will miss it, as you say they are sat in the pub lol.
Devon's unseasonably cool and wet summer weather is starting to hit tourist businesses in the back pocket.Ice cream parlours and other businesses in Dawlish Warren say the persistent rain is keeping tourists away. This time last year, the resort was packed with visitors, but it currently resembles a ghost town. Carnival rides near the Warren's seafront were deserted yesterday as summer visitors ...
I'ts a shame we don't have wardens for uncontrolable yobs with finds for their owners/parents as they are as much a threat or even more than our four legged friends
Great comments pity they cant be put into effect.
In the UK there is no free legal way of finding out who it belongs to other than actually calling the number and asking who it is.... often the simplest method. If this fails the only UK website to offer this service is mobile118 and that will only tell you who the number belongs to if the owner has gone to the trouble of putting their own mobile number on the site and registered with them. Good ...
The Lives of Others is an Oscar-winning German film that is really an update on Orwell's 1984. It shows how the stasi, the friendly, neighbourhood beat managers on the wrong side of the Berlin Wall, controlled the lives of just about everybody. And woe betide those who stepped out of line. The film, first shown at the Exeter Picturehouse a couple of months ago, is returning next month -- by ...

A West Country fruit farmer has said he is having his worst season for 16 years as heavy rain ruins crops. Dennis Killan from south Devon said the wet weather was making strawberries swell and burst. Another fruit farmer from Cornwall says he is in a race against time to pick the rain-swollen fruit before it is destroyed. Arable farmers in the region are also struggling with the weather as harvest ...
I'd come along to the show, except I have two salient excuses... i) I don't live in Europe. ii) It sounds like unmitigated crap.
I think the lad has learned his lesson and will become a model citizen from now on. I have already forgiven him in my Christian way, irrespective of whether he is sorry or not. If the boy ,(whose identity I like to protect on the offchance that he will acceed to some anale action when over the age of 16).... ...I give you all permission to come to the Bandstand and stick a pitchfork up my arse.
DEVON Wildlife Trust is holding its 5th annual corporate golf tournament next month at Dawlish Warren Golf Club. Teams of four are invited to enter this challenging links competition to win the charity shield and a host of other top prizes. The event is ...

Vital minutes could be saved in emergencies by allowing rescue services to use a surface rail crossing to get to Dawlish Warren beach, Parliament has been told.Teignbridge's Lib Dem MP Richard Younger-Ross said the current access, via a tunnel, was too small for emergency vehicles to get through. He told a debate at Westminster that a friend and councillor had suffered a heart attack while walking ...
