Can anyone explain why Dawlish Warren has such a tacky reputation? With such a beautiful area, why is it spoilt with so many tacky pubs and camps?
As somebody explained on an earlier thread, "it's certainly not upmarket".
It seems the Warren is a prime example of the junk culture that is spreading throughout this country of ours. Not that the owners of these places care ......as long as they make money.
Yet the Warren is constantly on Westcountry news as an example of 'great' British resorts! Who are they kidding!
I am told that DW has always been down market. Agree it is tacky. Perhaps if the sands keep on disappearing to Exmouth then the 'bargain basement' holiday makers might stop going there and the holiday camps/pubs might have to attract another market.
On the other hand, perhaps a supermarket might end up being sited there. Better that than being at Lady's Mile.
Or perhaps we could end up with that end of town being supermarket corner? Tesco at Lady's Mile, Sainsbury at Shutterton and who? Asda? Lidl? at DW. Perhaps that can be Dawlish's future claim to fame - it could end up as the supermarket centre of south Devon.
The Warren has always been tacky.
If anything it has started to move upmarket more.Oakcliff and Peppermint are vastly improved. If only someone would drop a bomb on the Welcome.
Peppermint Park, Golden Sands and Dawlish Sands have all been taken over by Park Holidays, so watch your daily newspapers and save your tokens for a cheap holiday!
And Lady's Mile to be built on by Tesco?
Yuksville.!
So much for Dawlish (town) being regenerated and moving upmarket.
PS Hope the holiday firm don't advertise DW has having lots and lots of sand. Definite breach of the Trades Description Act.
