Dawlish carnival organisers are appealing for more sponsors to come forward to support the annual event. Last year the carnival still lost £8,000 despite cutting cost to try to reduce the losses. The committee's efforts to keep the carnival in the black are not helped by red tape. The disco where the carnival royalty are chosen and cost £300 to put on was cancelled also the loss-making Easter ...

Thats good news - NOT. hope the firemen washed it down well to get rid of the cobwebs in the takeaway.
Bench now fixed. Some snazzy new pieces of wood holding it together. Safe to sit on - lets have a party!
The Fire Service were called to reports of a road traffic collision. Two appliances from Dawlish and Teighmouth were mobilised to this incident. Upon arrival crews confirmed no persons trapped and made the vehicle safe. See more... http://www.dsfire.gov.uk/news/newsdesk/IncidentDetail.cfm?IncidentID=25151&siteCategoryId=3&T1ID=26&T2ID=35
@Carer As I thought I had implied in my posting - my comment about the Starcross RBL was an 'as we're on the subject of correct spelling, incorrect use of the apostrophe etc here is another example' type of comment. Off topic in terms of the Carnival I agree, but certainly on topic in terms of Duckileaks' comments about bad grammar etc. Might I make a suggestion? Should anyone want to ...
Two fire appliances from Dawlish and Teignmouth attended a building fire in Dawlish, a further appliance from Danes Castle was mobilised for the use of Compressed Air Foam (CAFS). Crews on scene also requested an aerial platform attend to assist with fire fighting capabilities, this was mobilised from Taunton. Crews set to work using 4 breathing apparatus, 2 hose reel jets, a thermal imaging ...
If you do park and intend to use the shuttle bus service then leave plenty of time. I have waited ages for the bus and have come close to missing my check-in on internal flights.
In the youtube link, at 1:38, it's the members of Dawlish RBL passing. I hope that they had a great time.
So its probaby a 'waiting game' for the owners. If the building continues to deterioate then TDC will have another application for its demolition in a few years time .......In that case, what it the point of having conservation areas and listed buildings? no one seems to be interested, unless of course its a new housing development of boxes. Sorry folks, rant over!
DCC is doing a better job at living within its means than this (any) government does.
I agree that to charge £40 is a lot, but taxi drivers have to make a profit too. All too many of them are struggling to make a decent living. However, as FredBassett said, contact Dawlish Disability Transport. If you give them enough notice a vehicle and driver could be supplied for a lot less and the driver will wait for you to bring you home from the appointment as well. You will be given the ...
Have just noticed the revised plans submitted by Teign Housing, you can see the details on the Teignbridge website. That part of town is going to get even busier with traffic if planning is agreed.
According to an Ofsted report Gatehouse Primary School needs to make futher improvements to become a good school. Inspectors said there had been too little good teaching in the school and students had not made the progress they should and there had been a high staff turnover. A more recent visit by Ofsted said the senior leadership team has now been strengthened, teaching improved and pupils ...
We have been waiting nearly two years for the bridge to be renewed after being closed for that length of time. Workers arrived about 10 days ago and built the foundations on either side, to await the bridge, yesterday the team arrived and found that plans drawn up by the architect were different for each stage, consequently the bridge builders had to dig up the foundations and relay them to fit ...
@leatash using an alternative route is of course what a lot of people did, ourselves included on a lot of occasions, how bizarre of you to suggest that anyone would deliberately sit in a queue of traffic because they had to see what was going on with the wall. but sometimes using that part of town was unavoidable and the queues caused in both directions were a hassle for access even if you didn't ...
Why on earth are the lights on at the Tennis Court at 10.30am?
Fred, I totally agree with what you are saying, however this has been going for years at restaurants/hotels anywhere food is served. I wouldn't be surprised if this happens in Dawlish, it would be curious just to ask that question.
A very interesting meeting tonight at Gatehouse School. It was great to hear from other parents who have a very good handle on what the issues are in the school. I hope the governers and teaching staff take on board some of the suggestions. The deputy head however did herself no favours and came across very arrogantly. I think I'll mark her as 'inadequate' as per the new Ofsted markings. For ...
Most of what you say DJ I was only thinking that coming home from a job in Exeter. Exeter is my place of birth but nothing would induce me to go back there, I love to get to the Welcome to Dawlish sign we are a small seaside town which caters mainly for families on a budget, we will never be for the wealthy like some places in the South Hams. I agree traders should concentrate on the residents. ...

@ Dawlish News. So the new transport secreatary visit to dawlish recently worked wonders then.About time.
@wondering the majority of people voted against pedestrianisation
Thanks, Brazilnut, I'll give it a go.
Dawlish, it's a great place to live. I have a good job in Exeter with an easy 25 minure commute to work along a scenic road. We have a supermarket and the town centre is starting to look great after its revamp. There's a Blue Flag beach and walking on Dartmoor isn't far away. Haldon Forest is within easy reach. And we have a great city, Exeter, on our doorstep with all its work, leisure and ...
@Lynne . what would you personally consider to be sustainable transport. any motor vehicle that relies on todays fuel technology isent. there is therefore no point in causing more congestion by putting on more buses running around empty for most of the day. dawlish coaches tried it years ago and it just dosent pay. Perhaps better management and timing of what we have already would be a more ...
@Brazilnut As I have no connection with the Council I've no idea why you should think I know more than you concerning the redevelopment of The Strand.
Not sure if its all related to 'The Wall' but the amount of traffic using Park Road seems to have increased significantly in the last few weeks.
Park Home residents are celebrating the Mobile Home Act 2013 which forbids owners of Parks from being able to prevent residents selling their Mobile Homes to whoever they want at a price the two parties agree. Unscrupulous operators have in the past intervened telling prospective buyers that the dwellings aren't fit for sale, then purchase the units themselves at knock down prices and put them ...
Went to Warren Farm boot fair yesterday. Charging 30p per pedestrian entrance fee. Don't know what they were charging for cars but did see some drive straight in and straight back out again. Yesterday, at the entrance to the bootfair, the organisers were showing a list of what they charge sellers. Believe the cheapest is £7.00 per car if selling second hand stuff. Charges increase if selling ...
Cuts to Welfare Benefits may be politically expedient (ie popular with the electorate) but in actual fact may not be that economically cost effective (as has been pointed out on other threads on this website). https://www.dawlish.com/thread/details/23031
Police in Devon are seeking a 35-year-old man who is wanted for recall to prison following a conviction for drugs offences in 2011. Damian Pearce from Dawlish (pictured) is currently sought by police for breaching his prison licence when he was released. Officers says they are proactively following a number of lines of enquiry to try and find Pearce, and intend to arrest and return him to ...
I grew up with a sister who is a severe epileptic, she has never been able to lead a normal life. When I was young I always took her out with myself and my friends so they all learnt to handle somebody who has seizures, and to not be afraid. My late father became involved with Mencap because of her condition. I wish your wife a speedy recovery
@Carer yes that does answer my question.thanks.
If I was overlooking No2? I'd be tottaly pi--ed off
WHAT HAVE I BEEN SAYING FOR THE LAST MONTH OR TWO. ITS A BRIAN RIX FARCE. NO, MORE ITS A BLOODY CIRCUS RUN BY KN--S INC.
Differing experiences at Torbay - on the one hand they saved my Dad's life because one of the doctors recognised the slightly unusual thinig he had wrong with him and got treatment sorted so quickly that he was saved from brain damage and possible death, so obviously very grateful to them for that. But then we had a time when my son got concussion and by the time they saw him in A&E he had waited ...
