How old is the hospital? Am intrigued to understand whether it was design, materials, workmanship or act of god that caused the roof to fail. My mother's 60 year old roof is still watertight without any work ever done to it. Sign of the times?
Verity was very controversial when she was placed on the harbour in Illfracombe so i went to visit for the day and have a look very impressive i thought. Now if we could have a sculpture like Verity a little controversial so folk would be curios and come and have a look, my thoughts on the statue of happines landfill comes to mind.
Regions such as the south west of England could be disadvantaged by changes to the way the government funds road and rail projects, says the Transport Select Committee. In a report, the committee said a new system from 2015 would encourage private-sector funding. That could disadvantage regions with less private sector money, said the report. The South West receives the lowest spend on ...
But it's in the public domain!
@Lynne & roberta - absolutely don't want uncertainty blighting new housing. I think we can be fairly sure that a west of DAL will be 'an option' in the report. Luckily we only have a few weeks to wait now until finding out how it's cost/benefit is ranked by NR as an option. I will reserve further comment until then!
The seawall (that's the path, Clive) has re-opened between the Rockstone Bridge all the way to the Warren. This is really great news for those of us who have sorely missed this walk.
Does anybody know what the building Is on Dawlish Warren Station (Exeter St. Davids bound side) ? What use Is the building for ?
Absolutely, it means we have a tolerant, democratic society in which such harmless freedoms can be openly expressed. That is exactly why Putin was so incensed, freedom of speech is his biggest enemy and makes him feel vulnerable.
If you do the maths, UKIP's vote as a share of the voting population was: 34% (voting population who cast papers) * 27.5% (UKIP) = 9.35% i.e. Less than 10% actually felt strongly enough against the EU to register a 'protest vote'!! Hardly an earthquake except it was nevertheless the largest share. Make of that what you will.
Could be they were having their AGM and all attendants were there?
Organised by the Dawlish branch of the Royal British Legion, the day long musical extravaganza attracted the crowds who enjoyed the live music as well as bouncy castle, bar and refreshment stalls, barbecue and children’s rides. Highlight of the night was the appearance of up and coming local band Token Joker, who had the crowds rocking. The band are hoping to sign a recording deal soon. See ...

Leatash = no argument here
Can anyone recommend a good local company that's makes metal railings for a balcony? I'd appreciate any help - thanks
They've removed the car but not swept up any of the glass or charcoaled remains, not sure whose responsibility it is. Be careful if you are driving up Elm Grove Road just before the Newlands turning.
I'm not sure why the media are talking about UKIP so much, it's not as if they "won" the elections. Labour won more seats than Tories, LibDems, UKIP and Greens combined. They're a single issue party that have utterly failed to connect in a positive way except amongst the old aged bigots and the unintelligent chavs. I'm sure they'll have done well in the Euro elections (oh the hypocrisy!), but ...
Horse boxes were damaged in the collision at the Devon County Show The final day of the 2014 Devon County Show has been cancelled because of safety concerns, staff say. Organisers described the cancellation as "heartbreaking" but said parking safety concerns caused by recent heavy rain had left them no choice. The three-day event near Exeter was to end on Saturday, but has been halted after ...

I wondered it it was possible that Coryton Cove could ever win a Blue Flag or whether it involves factors beyond its control e.g. size and tidal effects. Here are the criteria: http://www2.keepbritaintidy.org/Programmes/Beaches/BlueFlag/EnglishCriteria/Default.aspx
The Teignmouth and Dawlish Social Media Café is free to attend and open to all local businesses and community groups. All of the experts give up their time for free to support local businesses and the community. The venues are also provided free of charge to support the events so all we ask is for people to come and buy a coffee while you're there. The next three Social Media Cafes have been ...
Is this different from the Barrel jellyfish which have been drifting ashore? The Barrel does have stinging cells but they are designed to kill plankton. They are not supposed to be strong enough to pierce human skin.
...and if something terrible happened to you sister/wife/daughter/child... Agreed not to necessarily repeat the name but good to know the drift of what is currently possible.
Apologies in advance. Yes, I know this is a long thread and that I've put a lot of postings on it and I had promised myself that I would give it a rest for a while but then I was reading the Sunday Telegraph online and an article about housing and then I started to read the comments underneath the article and then I read this particular comment and then......oh well....... read it for ...
You know they have been there so long I drove by just now and didn't even notice they were gone.

JELLYFISH strandings along the South Devon coast may be due to the weather, wildlife experts say. A dozen barrel jellyfish have been reported on the shoreline at Dawlish and Coryton Cove with further sightings at Torquay harbour. Steve Hussey at Devon Wildlife Trust said that swarms of jellyfish washed onto beaches is not uncommon. He said: “It has most likely occurred due to the weather ...
