Yes I know about Bob's bike shop and of course I know about the multitude of eateries we have in the town. Not sure we have a lot of room for lots of bikes being parked up though. So, what I was(am) getting at is a one stop shop type of thing with plenty of room for bikes to park up, plenty of room for bikes to be stored for hiring and to be repaired enroute, and for it to be a eaterie as well. ...

Thought this might be of interest. BBC Spotlight Southwest covered this matter in last night's programme. Here is the iplayer link. It is the first item in the programme. http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b03xjwqw/Spotlight_12_03_2014/
@stephen15 - tavistock, lydford gorge, bridestowe are the relaid track (i.e. meldon-bere alston 20miles?). the point is, when 'the options' get presented in june, the oke-tavy option should be 'cost benefited' not just as a resiliance and diversionary benefit but also as a county business generator that helps not just north devon but South Devon as well . Hence, my numbers game of 78 journey ...
Leatash, I said 'one of' not 'the'...semantics...no matter. Lynne - thank you. Maybe the Dawlish Gazette would fly the flag for the town. I saw your post of Mark Carne's statement regarding the views of stakeholders, so once the repair work is done I guess it'll come down to whether Dawlish 'stakeholders' have the wherewithal to hold their own.
Funding: I was not born yesterday, though on these message boards we seem to have to much rudeness, circling of situations and people who are very obviously getting a kick from being spiteful and enjoy telling us how someone has upset them. In recent times can we all just take a step back, breath, enjoy this town that we choose to live in and look at what is currently being done to improve the ...
A Dawlish historian has claimed the damage to the Dawlish rail line may have been prevented if the designer Brunel's original plans were followed. Bob Vicary prepared seven history boards along the South Devon Coast Path between Dawlish Warren and Lea Mount Park, Dawlish, for the Brunel bicentenary. He did much research and said the facts are 'a bit faint, but plenty of them'. Read more: ...
I have now had the following from Devon County Council The 6 month period stipulated in the closure notice is a standard time period used for any closure that is likely to be more than a couple of weeks. In other words, its entirely routine formulation of a notice Network Rail has not yet given a schedule for the works, so there is no suggestion from Network Rail that it will be 6 months. ...
Think I'll just go direct to pub.
It's been confirmed! I've waited and I've seen!
@honestjohn Ahh, real football players who WR just cannot be compared with.
@Lynne See my post (third one down) here, then scroll down to see what they look like. This is the sort of thing that is needed, and why they didnt do it years ago when the Warren defences were reinforced, God only knows.
I'll second it!

Just had a look at it and it really is top notch quality. Someone better tell those Network Rail engineers though, they were just walking along the track and you could almost pick up what they were saying! Thanks for installing it.

Network Rail has announced they will reopen the storm-damaged railway line, that connects the South West to the rest of the UK, on the 4 April, two weeks earlier than planned and well in time for Easter. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-26433185
That would be too simple, it would also go along way to solving unemployment

@stephen15 - yes very much agree, (and no train person really wants to start hoping off and on buses). the bus point is really that normally people expect at least a 50% time advantage by taking the train. also i think lots of people on the train, me included, look forward to the exeter to na stretch as a big relief from the tedium of all the hours getting to cornwall, i.e. the perception of ...

Read your discussions on this issue with great interest! I don`t know if many of you remember when the first phase of Meadow park was built there was i believe an undertaking from Mr stone that he would contribute to an access road. he subsequently declined to honour this agreement and therefore has been in conflict with TDC ever since. if you look back over many years Mr stone retained ...
Things have changed when i first came to Dawlish there where Hotels and loads of visitors you couldnt get breakfast or lunch in a cafe they where busy serving holliday makers, but we still get a bite of the cherry. The deverstation and TV coverage has certainly raised our profile is it possible we could go back to the those days maybe just maybe.
Explanation from the BBC about the concrete... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-26361280
Did anyone else register the irony that one of the options being considered by NR, the Teign Valley route, became impassable a few days ago because storms had washed the ballast away from the railway track. It's presently a single track and a train uses it once a week apparently to collect timber. See page 5 of this week's Gazette for picture and more info.

from Hansard, debate in Westminster Hall this morning "The Dawlish station footfall, believe it or not, is 480,564 people per year. That is the 2012 figure, the most recent I could find. Over the past 10 years, the footfall through Dawlish has risen by 81%. The footfall for Teignmouth is 566,528 individuals a year—again, that is the 2012 figure—and that has seen growth of 98%. If we add the ...
