The 28-year-old chairman of the Devon Young Farmers Club is a shining example of how the industry is changing and adopting new techniques, as it evolves to meet 21st century needs.


Chris, who is due to step down from his post in two weeks after a year in office, is already forging a successful career on the family farm just outside Exeter.

But as he revealed, although he comes from a farming background he did not always have his sights set on following in his father’s footsteps.


It was only after leaving Dawlish Community College and enrolling at Bicton College at Budleigh Salterton that Chris’ interest in working with his parents, Michael and Michele (CORR) at the family’s Higher Thornton Farm, part of the Trehill Estate, near Exeter, began to blossom. He said: “Within half a year of being there, and mixing with like-minded people with a passion for working on farms, it kicked in. I took it on from there and have never looked back.
