Whilst the "Friends of Dawlish Station" did well to win awards for helping tidying the station up after the Great Storm, who's responsible for its ongoing maintenance? I'm thinking specifically about the planters that now look in a very sorry state indeed and in fact make the platforms look a mess. How much do a few winter pansies or other hardy plants cost to buy and to keep fed/watered?
The plants were destroyed in the really bad weather last week. The group have a planting day tomorrow to repair the damage.
Thanks Margaret, that's great to read. They've been looking sorry for a bit longer than you suggest, however we all look forward to seeing the station looking blooming lovely again. Hopefully they'll be fed/watered all year round. Thanks again.
The tubs were replanted last month but unfortunately the bad weather did not allow time for the new plants to establish themselves. The whole group do work hard to keep the tubs looking attractive but many plants struggle to survive in the harsh environment we experience, particularly on the up platform.
Thanks must go to the Friends of Dawlish Station group who turned up to do the planting and to Toby Buckland for donating the plants. The group, all volunteers, do a fantastic job battling the elements to keep the planters looking as good as possible. We are a small group and do need more help with the watering, so if anyone out there would like to join FoDS then please do get in touch with me.
