While I'm in the USA in the town I used to live called South Riding Virginia, and taking a walk this afternoon in glorious sunshine I came across the local bandstand and thought that would look great in Dawlish. However I was having problems posting the photo on this site so it's now on Facebook Eyes of Dawlish. Strange no comments..............

Happened to come across this vid on youtube of the barge and crane being moved from the docks at Teignmouth to its current resting position at Dawlish. Filmed using a quad/hex copter. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UIZpaCjpaEU&feature=player_detailpage&list=UUk3I2Dq2shm5ndRZfJQfUvA
Two-year-old white German Shepherd Bailey was found dead by his owner who saw a blue van speed off towards Secmaton Lane in Dawlish. The owner said: “Bailey was only two-years and three-months old, still a baby. “He was a big soft teddy bear and we miss him loads. The place is empty without him. “If his death was an accident we can’t understand why they didn’t stop and say this is what happened, ...
Thanks for letting me know. Great news you found it.

Take a read of the editorial headed "National leaders fail to address local needs" on page 10 of this week's Dawlish Post.
Every party has promised drastic reductions in the benefits handout, but as soon as they get voted in they forget all about it until the next general election. I believe that the benefit system is a great idea, if it were run ethically and with competence, but there is little chance of that. For every genuine claim there are many more from those who should never be given the time of day. There are ...
Brian Powell persuaded his 19-year old son Callum to tell him the security codes and draw a plan of the arcade in Dawlish Warren so he could reach the money. He was caught by detectives who realised his son must be the inside man because only three people knew the codes and the other two still worked at the Pavilion Amusements arcade. Read more... ...
Old Fart, if you're suggesting that I'm in any way envious of Melvyn, think again. I'm merely trying to work out why he's so bitter? Though maybe on reflection I'm doing him an injustice and it's the paper that's turned it into an anti-BBC rant. So, what next? Calls for the return of Love Thy Neighbour? Or Mind Your Language?
Yes such a shame. My thoughts and prayers go out to her husband, who brought her so much happiness, and her two sons , who she was so proud of.
This Sunday we are delighted to welcome Marian Belfield as our Guest Speaker at our Service at 6.30 p.m. Marian's cheerful personality fills the Church, drawing the realms of Spirit even closer, enabling her to work with the energies of The Universal Spirit to spread the light far and wide. You will remember there was a strike by some NHS staff earlier this week about their not receiving a 1% pay rise. There is an editorial in this week's Dawlish Post on page 8 headed the "National Wealth Service" which refers to that strike whilst pointing out that the trust that runs Torbay Hospital is presently looking for a new chief executive. According to the DP "the last postholder was paid ...

AS you will see in the HE2 supplement, the Victoria St. Paignton Fruit and Vegetable store, which has long existed under the Stokes brand, is being re-launched under the name Devonfresh. This represents the first phase of the relaunch of five Stokes shops in Devon (Exeter, Teignmouth, Dawlish, Plymstock and Paignton) under the Devonfresh name. Read more... ...
Have just had this link sent to me http://rogerhturner.com/2014/10/16/when-is-a-pension-not-a-pension/ I think the article makes some interesting points concerning an individual's future private pension provision vs the individual's new right to do what s/he likes with their private pension pot. In your 50s? 'ave a read.
The latest from Osborne http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/workers-could-be-forced-to-pay-5-a-week-to-get-benefits-9794571.html (make sure you read the comments underneath the article)
Excellent 'straw poll' survey there Lynne. Am sure this uptake of buses is not at all uncommon where there are free pases. Totally agree that the NHS savings are well worth it.
When mass hysteria like this becomes common place ..... it is only a matter of time before .....
'On the Buses' with Reg Varney?
Old Fart, I've never seen the film. I hope though that it's not this quote I found: " You're the only woman for me. You and Janet Jackson. " :-)
Perhaps the district council planners also like to put their reputation 'on the line' that west of Tiverton will not be disrupted again this winter. Do they really believe it was just an extraordinary 1:100 year event? I think not. Services terminating at T.Parkway has become a perfectly predictable part of our winter timetable.
This Sunday the Guest Speakers at our 6.30 p.m. Sunday Service at Dawlish Christian Spiritualist Church will be Sue Toon & Kathy Upton. Sue & Kathy run Serenity Gardens, a training centre in Brixham, for up and coming Mediums.
Hi, class is 6.30 - 7.30 and costs £5.
Interesting item on BBC this morning, if you are looking after a relative or friend you can find yourself worse off now the minimum wage has been increased. The example given was a carer working 16hrs a week and maybe claiming working tax credits would now lose there carers allowance. The reason for this would be the 16hrs would now equal £104 per week £2 above the allowance. If they dropped to ...
When I sit here typing I am facing east. It is not unknown for me to be here around about sunrise. I have seen geese (but don't know what type) flying from a south westerly direction going over Warren Copse, towards the Exe Estuary/Starcross. Have you tried asking the rangers at the Warren? http://www.teignbridge.gov.uk/dawlishwarren
FIRST Great Western is set to be awarded an uncontested contract extension to run the railway between Plymouth and London, with union bosses branding the decision a "stitch-up". Plymouth and the rest of the South West is waiting for a Government decision on the future of the rail line between Exeter and Newton Abbot after a Network Rail feasibility study, published in July, estimated it would cost ...
How sad and what a shock. Had he been ill? RIP Wally.
The Government has faced criticism for cutting flood defence spending after the South West was battered the winter storms, leaving the Somerset Levels underwater for months and cutting off the Great Western railway at Dawlish in Devon. Defra says spending has gone up compared to the last Parliament. Read more... ...
Thanks very much, I'll do that. (And much easier too!)
Good to see a new shop opening in the strand. It's nice to see Dawlish is having a good selection of shops. To view some of the more recent ones go to https://www.dawlish.com/photo?albumid=1123
I see a new Town Manager has been appointed (glad I finally have my copy of Dawlish Gazette!). Tracy Scranage has lived in Teignmouth for 29 years and is former secretary of the Teignmouth Traders Association as well as recently working at SureStart in Heathfield. Good luck to Tracy, hopefully she has some great ideas. Hopefully people will get behind her and give her the support she will need.
After bad weather caused the swim phase to be cancelled last year, this year saw much better conditions for the 750-metre swim, 13-mile bike phase and the 5k run. With more 500 competitors registered the field was split into two waves to enable the swim start to be staggered. The long cycle resulted in a shake-up of the field and No. 11 James Haigh had now taken the lead, followed by Donald ...
Am actually a fan of HS2 - it's about 50 years late and very badly needed. It's not about the speed but capacity. The justification for it being so fast is that when you build new infrastructure it has to be future proofed. Having said that I do believe that it is not the optimun design. It's the interconnectivity with existing lines that is lacking, that plus it is a bit unnecessarily fast, ...
The 39 year old bar complex boss also suffered a blow to his head as he was forced to hand over £10,000 Bank Holiday takings from a safe. He then called for police and ambulance but went back into his own office behind the bar and stole £8,270 which he stuffed into his back pocket. The married father of three denied theft but was convicted by a jury but yesterday (WEDY) he was spared an immediate ...
I think you got quite an unkind response. We don't all click on Events looking for something to do but if it's flagged up here, it might jog somebody. It was hardly a sin whoever your god is or isn't.
