"The price and availability of books or bananas is not controlled by the government. Land, and indirectly rental prices, are controlled by the government." Mm, up to a point, but it's not quite as straightforward as all that. Besides, dispensing with HB isn't the only, nor the best, means of addressing the (very minimal) extent to which HB levels can influence pervailing rental rates.
Spoil your ballott paper then. Write the name of the party you would like to vote for or write your all useless on it.
lol I dont want no units built cos itll b competition 4 my multi million dolla empire lol!
Its not rocket science guys, a lot of the information I try to pass on via this site is given to me by local people who also use the services of my company in addition to being customers and owners of others. Listening to people who like to talk is all part of what we do. This site is an excellent source for local information with lots of useful stuff posted by Lynne and others and as such is ...
'As I sat musing one day, sad and lonely, A voice came to me from the gloom, Smile, cheer up and be happy, Things could be worse! So I smiled, did cheer up and was happy, And behold things did get worse.'
Don't worry people are already returning to what they know and love. The one week wonder is slowly becoming a holiday maker luxury. Prices to high, young manager that cant cope, and staff already leaving. After carnival week and the cheap late caravan weeks nobody will want to trek out to Shutterton and hopefully trade and the town will return to normal
any news on whats happening with ground etc
Memoryman - I am so glad that you have received compensation for your inconvenience in inconsistant service provided by orange over the last few months. I have been in regular contact with customer services about the problem and was told to contact them once the issue had been resolved. However, I have recently received a letter from their correspondance team to thank me for contacting them about ...
Thank you all so much for the advice - it's really helpful! I think I might just avoid using my car on the Thursday and Friday of Carnival Week - fortunately, I can work from home so it's no big deal really. Unfortunately, my partner can't do that and as such will have to attempt to use the trains as usual - although it's reassuring to know that extra carriages are added on the air show day! ...
I will be in Dawlish for a day in August. I want to be able to wander around for a few hours but will have a large suitcase with me having checked out of my Torquay hotel in the morning. Can anybody tell me if there are any places in Dawlish where I could pay to store my suitcase for a few hours ? Thanks.
Nothing really to do with this argument but my main worry is how close cyclists are to each other at times. It only takes the one in front to brake suddenly and they'd be all over the road with cars struggling not to hit them. I'm all for cycle paths shared with pedestrians/cyclists. Anyone not walking directly on the road has to be safer. With a bit of respect for each other (and, dare I suggest, ...
If you go in a chipshop 20 minutes before it is due to close , and all they offer you is chips because they cant be arsed to cook anything else then im sorry, but if id gone in singing and dancing , it would have made no difference. If a business is to lazy to take your custom then it never deserves it again. In high season Rock and sole has a choice of 8 or 10 different fish, hence the wait at ...
I also went there today, ok I suppose as any supermarket goes, nothing to shout about, swings and rounabouts on prices. Some things in there Coop dont sell simirlarly some things I wanted couldnt get, so I will stick to Coop with an occasional visit to Sainsburys
You need to search for people, and then follow them. Then their tweets will appear on your page. The more people you follow, the more information you will see. For example if you have an interest in economics and financial stories follow Robert Peston. Or is the page just completely blank with no information on it at all? If you use facebook as well, then try tweetdeck which is available on Mac, ...
There's more about all of this in today's Gazette. See front page and page 3.
Good to hear and great for dawlish.
All rural areas in Teignbridge will see their parking charges on Sundays dropped from August 7th until March 31st 2012. Dawlish, Teignmouth and Newton Abbot will be joining the pilot scheme from Sunday October 30th this year.
Sainsbury's will open their new store and petrol station to the public at 9am on Wednesday August 3rd at 9am. The new store which is just off the Exeter Road in Dawlish is slightly smaller than its Newton Abbot store and will employ 220 people.
I'm probably alone on this.. but I think in this internet age we should be able to see the event times planned on the web ..I'm sure people away from Dawlish would want to know the info and I cant see them buying a prog in advance as they suggest. Think the committee should drop the old 'buy the prog' idea and have hand out free leaflets and display posters all over the town giving people the info ...
Why not try the Railway Inn just up from the Exeter on the opposite side. They do really good home cooked food at a very reasonable price. Two courses for £4.50 during the week. Family friendly also.
The only reason I ask, is that Tesco seem to be buying Dawlish. Everything that is for sale, from football ground to Costcutters and anything else not nailed down is apparently being purchased by the evil capitalist empire known as TESCO... Any thoughts
I have just read about the moaner who thought that we had a new generation of lout cats, that spitfully go out of their way to make your life a misery, and have obviously got together and ganged up against you personally. How inconsiderate of them. I blame the owners for teaching their cats not to dig a nice deep whole to go for their ablutions.
THE future of Dawlish Town Football Club is in the balance after it was announced they had withdrawn from the Western League. The 122-year-old club informed league officials of their decision to pull out on Friday evening, while the future of their reserve team, which plays in Division Three of the Fresha Devon & Exeter League, remains unclear. It is understood the club are in dispute with ...
A driver photographed apparently reading a newspaper while at the controls of a high-speed passenger train has been suspended while his company investigates the incident. The man was caught on camera by Jim Hales, 64, as a First Great Western (FGW) train, which had set off from Plymouth, emerged from a tunnel at Coryton, near Dawlish, in Devon. The picture showed the driver with his newspaper ...
Why has the parking in Old Town Street gone back to 30 minutes? Cllr. Clatworthy was supposed to be going to sort it out as this is a relic from when the shops were there. There are never going to be any more shops so what's the point of having the restrictions. Come on, new councillors, this is a case for you to get your teeth into.
I'm moving house and I really would rather not take this with us! It is blue, in used condition, but hasn't been excessively used. It could probably do with a clean as well, however, it is still very servicable, in my opinion. Anyone interested e-mail fishccer@aol.com .
Counterfeit clothes, shoes and DVDs have been discovered by Trading Standards Officers at the Sunburnt Arms, Warren Road, Dawlish Warren during a joint operation with police. A 'substantial' quantity of suspected cannabis resin also found has been sent off for forensic analysis. The pub is now shut and a meeting to review the licence will be held next month. Three van loads of goods believed to be ...
I find the staff in general very friendly and polite! A few things missing but I just walk up to the other stores and gain some exercise in the process!
A member of the public spotted a carrier bag moving on the beach at Dawlish Warren. When they untied the bag they found a three-month-old kitten inside. The kitten is now been cared for at the RSPCA Little Valley Animal Shelter Exeter, and is healthy but was traumatised by its experience.

A children’s charity is looking for volunteers to help run a charity walk. The NSPCC Devon Hike Against Cruelty to Kids (HACK) takes place on September 11, and will see walkers covering 25 miles along the South West Coastal Path from Dawlish. The charity is now looking for people to assist with tasks such as registering entrants, manning check points and marshalling the route. The charity is also ...
