A few thoughts here, so pleade excuse the individual postings, but posting via iPad doesn't allow for paragraph formatting. Firstly WELL DONE to all those involved, Police and the Naval Bomb Disposal Squad. From my first hand experience (evacuated quickly & efficiently from nearby building) they all did an awesome job in a bad situation. Big thumbs up to the co-ordinations team - setting up road blocks, stopping the trains, evacuating etc etc.
I was VERY dismayed at some of the publics reaction though. Giving he Police grief, complaining about the inconvenience etc etc. Thankfully it turned out to be nothing? I am sure if it had turned out to be worse case scenario (and let's face it, we have all seen it happen - London bombings etc) these same people would be the first up in arms if their relation was injured. VERY poor show, as the saying goes.
VERY surprised it wasn't even worth a mention on the nightly news. And STILL nothing online either .... All day and night, that's wondrous strange !!
You don't have to go as far away as London to see what can happen cheftallyrand,

I'm not suprised the police took precautions.
@cheftallyrand - believe there was something on the very late edition of bbc spotlight last night. so there may be more coverage today - guess it all depends on what else has happened newswise locally between yesterday and today.
I cant imagine that the good burghers of Dawlish would be keen to have a 'bomb scare' all over the news in the week before Easter. Hardly conducive to family friendly holidays.
I hope that when the police find out the identity of the juvenile prat responsible for yesterday's extreme waste of police resource, that they use the full force of the law against them. Not even funny.
@Philip - thanks for that info. i've only just returned to the uk and never knew about that. as to the precautions took, far better to be safe than sorry. i'm just sorry some of those around me yesterday, didn't think the same way.
Was out of Dawlish until late yesterday afternoon and returned via Luscombe Hill so was unaware of what was happening. All credit to the emergency services who did a very good job in tricky circumstances; you can never be too careful and they were right to be suspicious of the suitcase as it was in a prime position. Talking about it with someone this morning, there seems to be a feeling that this suitcase and its contents were dumped outside one of the charity shops and moved by some idiot, probably drunk at the time. Wonder if we will ever know?
