I understand that Watchdog may be of interest tomorrow (thursday) re DVLA releasing personal details.

I posted something similar a while ago. All goverment agencies seem to think it is OK to sell personal details to companies willing to cough up the money. 192 buys its data off government agencies like the Electoral Register and Companies House.

Would the programme be about releasing information (for no profit) to private parking companies? I.e. providing address information to enable illegal parkers to be sent their letters demanding that they pay the fines that they owe? Sounds interesting. I might record it.

Nelson, You are assuming they are illegal parkers, as for no profit at £2.50 per release it generates over a million pounds per year. It has also been reported that they have released information to private companies not registered to legally receive such information.

As to what they intend to investigate we shall have to wait and see.

Over 400,000 releases per year to private parking companies? That's a heck of a lot of illegal parkers! I look forward to seeing what Anne Robinson has to say. Thank you for the heads up.

Good to see you are still acting as judge and jury, we can now abolish the appeal process, get rid of the adjudicators (who receive 60p for every PCN issued) ignore the court rulings and cancel the TSRGD.

User 4549, I fail to see your problem, if someone parks, without permission, on your or my property that is illegal parking and they deserve everything they get. There should be no need for signs etc. everybody knows when they leave the public highway and enter private property, or at least they should if they used their eyes.

Taverner, Who mentioned anything about "your or my property"?

I think the point of the programme is looking at the details being sent to those parking companies who are less than scrupulous

Rach, Good comment, it should be interesting.

Watchdog confirms "private parking companies" cannot fine you only courts can.
