The price of alcohol will cost more proportionately the less income people have. So, people on fixed incomes, like pensioners, will be some of the most adversely affected I would have thought.

Alcohol is a mood altering drug. Have just one too many (or even not as much as that) and the fact that you really haven't got enough money to buy it/some more won't really register and so I think it will still get bought.

I think the booze cruises to France will kick off again.

I also think brewing your own will gain popularity plus goodness knows what else getting made some of which could be laced with heaven knows what and which could be fatal if drunk.

We could end up with more in the hospitals than we do at present.

That's what I think.

The smoking ban was intended to make pubs, offices, eating establishments, shops, etc, etc a healthier environment for patrons and workers alike. In that redpect, the legislation was a resounding success. This proposed legislation is aimed at off-sales and will hopefully make it harder for kids, wino's and the like to kill themselves and be anti-social. In my opinion. I'm all for it.

If it stops the town centres around turning into no-go areas on too many nights of the week then it can't be a bad thing.

Loads of youngters get very drunk at home on alcohol bought cheaply at supermarkets before they go out and then top it up with drinks bought at pubs and clubs. 24 hour licences helped to fuel this and they should also be banned.

My elderly parents live on a route up from the town centre of Teignmouth towards the back of town, they are regularly woken during Friday and Saturday nights with shouting and fighting in the street outside, sometimes but not always involving the police being called in. It didn't happen anywhere near as much before alcohol was so cheap and pubs/clubs were open such long hours. Fights are also starting on the way DOWN into town earlier in the evenings too so if anything the situation is getting worse.

As for home brewing being lethal - I thought that was the general idea? I know the ginger wine a neighbour brews is a great paintstripper!
