But it is a fallacy to believe one would lead to the other. Plus the next person would say the money spent subsidising carer's going swimming would be better spent on X.

A COMPROMISE by planners over a link road to help deliver 1,000 houses on the edge of Dawlish has been reached. Despite councillors expressing their concern at the fact construction traffic would still be diverted through Sandy Lane and Elm Grove Drive, they reluctantly accepted at Wednesday's planning meeting that the only viable way to deal with the issue is through a construction management ...

UPDATE ON THE DAWLISH LINK ROAD CAMPAIGN On Friday 27th May 2016, Dawlish town councillors were invited to attend a presentation from the Teignbridge District Council planning department: Simon Thornley, Alex Lessware, Phil Shears, and team. They explained the options for accelerating the building of the Link Road, that we are demanding, that they had explored. Three Dawlish town councillors ...
@ MV Well said. Also, being an outsider, I won't object to putting money into the new carnival collection boxes.
Liam Hill of Britain Stronger in Europe said "Our volunteers made their way to Starcross on both the Saturday and Sunday of Radio 1's Big Weekend to speak to voters about the importance of registering to vote and of voting Remain. "We were enthused by the large numbers of people who said they were already registered and understood the significance of the choice facing the country." In addition to ...
Maybe they could put affordable houses there, so the children will not have to go far to get to school! Or a new school building and have a split site? Handy since DCC have ignored the call for another school near Sainsburys. This means the remaining schools, all on bad roads will have more children and traffic put upon them, causing safety issues. Will be interesting what they do use it for ...
Just wanted to share with you all my experience of the mobile butcher who visits the Car Boot on a Wednesday. He's the same guy as last year, excellent quality at fabulous prices. (no I'm not on commission!) Thoroughly recommended. He's there until 3pm today.

Found a bike in Dawlish yesterday. Anyone lost one?
Organisers of the Dawlish Celebrates Carnival have arranged for the Rampage Mas Band to take part in the procession on Friday, August 19. The parade will be part of a week of fun arranged to ensure the town has something to celebrate after Dawlish Carnival Committee announced it was unable to run the event his year. Read more... ...
FB. You've mentioned on here recently that you don't want to be a local politician. I think you should also make sure that you don't become a music critic. You're entitled to your opinion, but as someone there I can assure you that it wasn't mediocre. It was amazing. Granted I didn't see Meghan Trainor as she clashed with the awesome Twenty One Pilots. As for how much I spent. Well, the same as ...
Yes , just got back from there. It is BIZZZZZEEEEEEEEE

I'm not the one keeping this thread going...
Following the extreme weather at the beginning of 2014 which caused part of the railway line at Dawlish to collapse into the sea, Network Rail began working with residents on a study looking into the impact of coastal flooding, erosion and cliff instability on the route and the options available to limit the effects of these in the future. Just seen that it's all clear. I'm surprised that those who moaned about the temporary inconvenience haven't piled in to offer their thanks on here...
Absolutely brilliant news, Flo. Well done to all those who have been working so hard behind the scenes to make this happen. Should get Carnival 2016 off to a flying start!
The management? Thanks for the heads up though. Will have to make sure I stock up on lifes essentials before then.
Leigham Court is fairly quiet. It used to be full of elderly people who had bought the houses new in the early 70's but they are gradually dying or moving to nursing homes! There are now a couple of houses that are rented out, there are younger families moving in so there are now quite a few cars about. If you're looking at buying then make sure the roff is checked properly - they're flat and may ...
Good to see them back again. Perhaps we will now get some summer!
Certainly the Smugglers gets booked up very early for Sundays; but then it's not in the town so maybe it wouldn't suit you best anyway. I'd agree with S's suggestion of the Marine.
Frustration is mounting about the lack of Government support for Devon and Cornwall rail improvements, as ministers pledge billions of pounds for schemes in London. Exeter MP Ben Bradshaw said it was becoming "crystal clear" that the Government has "absolutely no intention of keeping its promises on rail investment in the South West". Responding to the concerns, rail minister Claire Perry stressed ...
It would seem that nobody's perfect, Purrrrrfect. I refer to S's thread of the 18th May at 11:58 above: 'What are those sheds/dumping ground? Does it look like that now?'
On the compulsory purchase bit of this bill: The government is going to reform the CPO process so that landowners receive today's market value of property, rather than its future value. Which would mean that landowners, farmers, and individual property owners could see their compensation fall significantly under the new compulsory purchase orders. So.....no point in buying farms and farming land ...

Really looking forward to seeing them.
great photographs, @BEE9 . the cygnets have grown big quickly.
What is the actual problem with housing availability in the country for those who earn a low wage! They do not earn enough to have a large enough deposit for a mortgage and/or pay for the mortgage and house prices continue to increase. The governments idea is to have large companies build expansive estates of houses with housing association properties built within the developments for those on low ...
In the top 10 for £24k seems a little underwhelming. I wouldn't be surpised if he's still claiming from Spain!
@ZIGGY - i would assume from the evidence that it was the council, or should i say the cheapest sub contractor they employed through the bid system for contracts. Does the council (which ever one it is) ever check the poor quality of work done by some of these contractors. A case in point is Badlake hill. A couple of years ago it was resurfaced over a period of a few weeks. All the contractors did ...
This Appeal was on the Agenda at last week's Dawlish Town Council planning committee meeting where it was Resolved that: "Secmaton Lane must not be used for any construction traffic or any access to new houses".
@Taverner . I think you are referring to the Voices for Dawlish councillors who were in office 2011 -2015. I seem to remember a letter in the Dawlish Gazette shortly after they were elected from an ex Lib Dem councillor having a pop at them (or some of them) claiming that they were really Labour people. I have no idea if that is or was true. But I do know that I wrote a letter in response saying ...
So, making a broad assumption that the number of new affordable homes built in the Coalition years between 2010 and 2015 were delivered nationally at a ratio of 25% (the same figure as set for Dawlish) then the total number of homes built in that period would equate to 868,000 (217,000 / 25%). That would be an average of 173,600 total new builds a year, which I don't think is a mile away from the ...
