To David Fortet. Have you tried 'Rails along the Sea Wall' also by Peter Kay (I think). They used to sell this book at Paignton Station (Steam terminal). At the back of this soft back book it also mentions a more comprehensive hard back book that was to be published in the early nineties.I have not been able to locate a copy of this book however.
I've been away for a time from the Dawlish forum, and what a lot i've missed. Topical, questioning, uncensored, intelligent conversation. OOPS wrong forum, come on forum feeders, we need to get back to the comprehensive debate about the state of dawlish and what we can do to reclaim it from the infestation of do gooders and want to be's, we need action, vote out the old and bring in the new, give ...

Spy satellites, the retention of electronic data records, now CCTV and the potential of ID cards being introduced. All of this is a dictators dream....What next?
Opponents of CCTV point out the loss of privacy of the people under surveillance, and the negative impact of surveillance on civil liberties. Furthermore, they argue that CCTV displaces crime, rather than reducing it. Critics often dub CCTV as "Big Brother surveillance", a reference to George Orwell's novel Nineteen Eighty-Four, which featured a two-way telescreen in every home through which The ...
First it was our major metropolitan areas, then our regional cities, now our towns and villages our getting CCTV. -The exact number of CCTV cameras in the UK is not known. A 2002 working paper by Michael McCahill and Clive Norris of UrbanEye [1], based on a small sample in Putney High Street, "guesstimated" the number of surveillance cameras in private premises in London as around 400,000 and the ...

I have completed a 4mm scale model of both station buildings and the signal box at Dawlish, but desperately seek any information or pictures of the Goods Shed during the period late 1950s / early 1960s. I have checked the Dawlish Museum and Swindon archives to no avail. My best source of info todate has been Peter Kays book entitled Exeter to Newton Abbott. Could anybody help, either directly, or ...

There was a large flock of avocets on the Exe, but close-up views were obtained on the River Clyst. Down at Dawlish Warren, the best ...
