Skateboarding on Marine Parade
Does anybody else find that it's almost impossible to drive along Marine Parade - or park there! - in the afternoons/evenings, because of the skateboarders? Some days you can't even walk down there without risking being knocked over.
Don't expect us to do anything about it, those kids look scary and might call us names, like 'PC Plod'
I think the skateboarders are a fantastic way of slowing the maniac drivers who think our road is a racetrack, long may they remain.
I agree with you, why cant the dogs go to the loo in their own garden before mumsy or dadsy take thier precious little darlings for a walk, JUST LIKE HUMANS DO.
No one has ever been hit by a skateboarder on Marine Parade. The car drivers are the only ones who could actually hurt someone.

I regulartly skate at parade, and now uv made such a big deal outta it i do actually cum down to piss u all off.
Were nt even there for very long in the evenings so basically u shud be willing to make a comprimise.
Id also just like to say i really really do love all the residents at parade, especially the ginger lady and her daughter for being so understanding xxx
Right lets get one thing straight, skateboarders are a god damn more sociable than most of the inhabitants of that lovely smooth road named marine parade.
i have been skating for about two and a half years and since i have been skating i have had encounter with people about it and 99% have no problem with us and often stop and watch.
Often enough i have been skating on marine parade and have had the community safety wardens turn up and the culprit for their calls peep through the curtains of their homes. If they have such a big problem maybe they should come out and give us a right telling off themselves. Personally i think their hostility is because we are making something of our lives where as the people that come out and complain during the daytime obviously have no job to keep them satisfied. I think people should be grateful we are skating in a lit area and not going round taking drugs and pissing up the side of their cars and vans and causing trouble. basically i think the people complaining are chatting complete bollox but i thank all of you who complain for making me want to skate the parade even more plus i look forward to your next peeping session through you curtains and i hope you dont think while your doing this one of our mates could be climbing through a window round the back of your lovely premises
One more thin, i do realise tht all the parade inhabitants love us skateboarders all so dearly, but i do think tht taking photos of us is one step to far. because u cud possibly get labelled as a PEODOFILE, which im sure u wudnt like very much,
n then u c i cud call the wardens n police and gt u arrested.

by the way cant wait till the council lay more pipes on the marine parade as i does make som lovely gaps and then i would recommend the marine parade to all my mates in teignmouth and exeter to come skate the road thats got to be around 50 skaters good idea you think!!!...
Ahh, good old marine parade, i mean the people living there need to chill out so bad. We are not in the way of people or traffic that is all a load of shizz. Yes we skate in the road but when we see a car coming we go into the empty car spaces to let the cars through. The only time we get i nthe way of the cars is when the drivers put there foot down and drive towards us. The skateboarders who skate in this are are aged between about 7 - 18. So if someone drives towards a 7 year old, is that them getting in the way? Is that right? Just because we skateboard we are associated with drugs, alcohol, vandalism, stealing etc. When the skaters who have finished school got decent grades and are probably the quieteset people you will talk to. That is if your not shouting at them for making them apear bad. Basically Dawlish should get a decent skatepark so everyone whould see less of the skateboarders in Dawlish town itself.

this is for the people who wont leave us alone you know who you are(the residents at No. 11 the lovey people that they are!!!) so basically you put up with us or come and join in and skate with us or just shut the f*ck up and stay in your house turn the tv up and drown out the noise.And also you live next to a train track so you cant complain about the noise can you hey!!

I really dont understand why most people in Dawlish have a problem with skaters. I think its a healthy hobby to have and we should be glad that these young people arent out causing trouble and breaking the law.
Dawlish is a very dull place and when I was their age I doing drugs and running wild as there simply wasnt anything better to do. Why dont you all wise up and praise them for having an interest outside of smashing windows and terrorising old ladies. They could be doing much worse.

seriously you can get down marina prade don't lie ! we could be worse trust me we could be smashing your windows and doing drugs but hey we chose not 2 and started skateboarding and you ppl down marina parde think its a crime we ride a skateboard. We barly come down because of the weather now we can skate other spots but when we do come down u think we have been down there for years ! As soon as we brake up for the summer holidays the bandstand is going 2 be used more and more then we will be forced 2 go down marina parde, so u will have 2 live with it. You can walk down the pavemnts so don't lie u seem worse that kids in primary school ur like almost craving atteion just SUPPORT ARE SKATEPARK AND WE WILL GO !!

David Cameron says hug a hoodie, I say hug a skater. Seriously the kids just want somewhere to go. Give them a skate park and everyone would be happy. And just encase your interested (my brother is one of them) most of them are the kind of boys who would help a women with a pram or an elderly person with their shopping, not mad crime lords who are going to beat you with their boards for walking past them.
imagine a Headline in 2009. "Skate park destroyed by arsonist" and it cost over ten times the play park in the Manor Grounds.
Who is going to step forward and show respect for people and property. Respect for your elders will in turn be rewarded by all the help and effort they can muster as it is they who earn the money that is collected to fund many of your play items and other facilities.
Stupid clever remarks and rudness to residents will slow down the building of your Skate Park by years.
The skateboarders are not being rude to the elderly and you would obviously be surprised by how many rude comments they receive by the elderly when they are doing no wrong. It is quite right what Kieran says - it is much better that they are outdoors doing a sport than taking drugs or getting drunk as many of the youngsters seem to do, probably due to boredom. You should not tarnish everyone with the same brush. Also, I am fed up hearing that they should be careful as the skatepark won't be built because of trouble in the town not linked to them. It is totally unfair to try and blackmail them in this way through no fault of their own. They can't win. Come on Dawlish/Teignbridge and do something now, before their youth is over and not in another 40 years! Dawlish should be catering for the young as well as the elderly.
What an adult reply this is! This is why you are miss understood and disliked. Instead why don't you all start campaigning the council for a place to get a decent skate park, get a group together to fund raise to help build a skate park. Get local people on your side by giving demonstrations of your talents on your skate boards, develop a routine and go in the carnival.Lots of ideas to get you what you want and need without offending, getting peoples backs up or getting aggressive. Rise above it be better than the people that look down on you. I for one think some of you guys are very talented and deserve to have a place to go where you can just get on with your thing without hassle from moaning neighbours. So come on get of your bums and help yourselves, get the newspapers involved, moan on and on to the council just don't join the complainers as you will be that old one day and find yourself moaning at the kids. Aaargh what a horrid thought hu???
Skate boarding isnt a problem. The fact is you need to have the skate park thats propossed to be built in Sandy lane built so that you have a decent area to go which will be better for everyone. Its a same the tempory skate park isnt used so much by yourselfs as your going to loose it if you dont as the cost involved are high in storing it. Also I agree whole heartedly with the new skate park but feel the sakters should be showing a better image of themselves and helping get the funding under way I know a very hard working indvidual who has raised thousand of pound to keep Youth Topia going for the last 8 years and is very much invlolved in raising money for the new skate park how about the sakters there selfs get and help out and get a better publice support???
The skaters have been very active in trying to get this skate park. They have attended meetings on a weekly basis at the Teen Youth Project base down the Manor. Some of them have also attended a few council meetings, however, after being promised this and that and finally realising the promises were empty have been left with only the temporary facility. Which yes, is better than nothing, and yes they do attend it and look forward to it. However, once every one or even 2 months is just not enough. They even did a public petition and handed this into the council. They were involved in preparing the temporary equipment and transporting it, etc. so I don't know why you think they haven't done anything. They have done a lot, but obviously not everyone knows this. They have now been told that they have been promised the money yet again, so well, before I get too excited about it for them, lets watch this space!!!!! I just want to say though that Phil East and the Community Police Officers have been fantastic in their support and work for them and they do appreciate it!!
Oh for heaven's sake!!! If any of those kids were one of mine I'd be rather proud that he was out on a sk8board ... physical exercise, laughing and having fun ... surely thats a good thing. There is a certain amount of skill involved in skating ... not that all you whinging mingers would know ... they are really pretty decent guys, give them the time of day and they'll give the same back. If you saw the same crowd sitting in stone huts drinking from dawn to dusk - or worse still shooting up - it would give you a whole new topic to whinge about ...

Maybe the next step is the newspapers? Get some real support going for these kids. I truly believe there should be a place for all ages in this town and we shouldn't bow down to the pressure of the old. These kids should be supported as they are actually not doing any harm and they are in my experience even getting hassled by their own age group because they aren't drop outs and they dress differently.
They actually give quite good entertainment if you stop and watch too.
Keep up the good work and don't give up.

Why a bowling green on the lawn and nothing for the youngsters. The playpark up the manor is so out of the way hardly any visitors know its there.It would be a lot safer on the lawn for children to go on there own or while their parents shop.
I often park my car along Marine Parade I have never had any trouble or problems its great to see kids having a good time,no drugs or drinks just doing their own thing
As global warming takes hold Marine Parade will be under water if i lived on Marine Parade I WOULD BE PUTTING MY EFFORTS INTO IMPROVING SEA DEFENCES in 5 years the skateboarders will be gone but THE SEA WILL STILL BE RISING

Theres not much for younge people to do, and the answer is build a bloody skate park!Im always down there as i walk along there to go for a swim, they never get in my way , maybe its u getting in there way!
If you remember our town council wasted £80,000 + on CCTV that doesnt work at night and can't see all of the lawn because of leaves on the trees,they should have spent the money on the skateboarding for the youngsters, instead they spent £500 on a temporary ramp which they can only use once a month and they thought what a wonderful thing they had done for the Kids, PATHETIC.
Why not bombard the Town Council with letters expressing your views.
