@Carer - if it was your daughter (& grandchildren) who was 'a teenage single mum with a couple of kids' in desparate need of housing I'm sure you'd be thrilled if the council put her near the top of the list! I'm surprised no-one here hasn't joined in with you adding immigrants to the list.

At one point I think that the people in the United Reformed Church (don't know what they call themselves now) did a big book sale, they may be interested. Someone else to ask is Angie at the Council offices in the Manor, she has lots of connections to groups around so may know of someone.
Good for her, she stated that she can't vote for something that wouldn't help families struggling to pay their fuel bills.
I think Fred is probably right, and even if they do paint the bay what's to stop other disabled badge holders from parking there - unless there's a great big sign saying for Tony only! (which would still get ignored)
I remember the years that some councillors were extremely proud of the fact that they didn't increase the precept year upon year. But they did keep up with pay increases for the staff, and the cost of any services they paid for increased and any materials they bought increased so effectively each year they could do less with the money they had. There should be a small increase each year, the ...
Just to be clear for anyone else reading this - best before end is a guide used by manufacturers to tell you when the flavour of the food may start to deteriorate (all still edible) Whereas a use by date is when the food should be eaten because it will go off and may lead to food poisoning. But eyes and nose are the best guide for that and a day or two after may not matter. Frequently find ...
Dawlish did, successfully for several years. But with a committee of just 3 people (with a handful of others helping in specific roles and volunteers who come out for the day to marshal etc) it's a heck of a commitment. During the last year it took place one of those 3 decided that their business needed to take precedence, another developed significant health issues and the final one decided ...
I'm thinking Paul is a parody.....
No they would have left because they don't generally transport the dead, they are a resource for the living
I was in Teignmouth last night and stood right by the cafe - destroyed is a bit of an exaggeration. Was told the kitchen is badly damaged and the rest was full of smoke but they're aiming to be up and running again soon.
On Monday 27th (tomorrow) at 7pm there is a meeting for volunteers to attend at the Royal British Legion Club. A chance to support the week of events even if just for a few hours. If you can get to the meeting brilliant, if not and you still want to help then email dawlishcelebratescarnival@outlook.com
Leigham Court is fairly quiet. It used to be full of elderly people who had bought the houses new in the early 70's but they are gradually dying or moving to nursing homes! There are now a couple of houses that are rented out, there are younger families moving in so there are now quite a few cars about. If you're looking at buying then make sure the roff is checked properly - they're flat and ...
Years ago I was at a meeting in which a DCC highways chap said to those complaining about parking along Westcliff that it acts as a traffic calming measure in itself. It forces traffic to go slower! My youngest went to Gatehouse and left 11 ish years ago, it was a nightmare then, especially if it was wet as those that would walk or park further away couldn't possibly get wet. Many times the ...
Ooh there's a question! I don't know, there's the usual pilots party with entertainment and I suspect a draw. If you're on facebook you could ask on their page or by the website, if you can't let me know and I'll text the committee member I know.
He was a sweetheart and will be missed. RIP Les
I do sort of agree that the apprenticeship schemes are worthwhile, providing the qualification gained is relevant, the experience in the workplace is progressed during the time of the placement ie. not stalled after they learn how to make a brew and take a phone message, and there is a real chance of a full time job at the end - not just a thanks and 'next trainee please'. I understand that ...
I'm thoroughly sick and tired of all this. Cyber bullying is still bullying. There seem to be a small few who want to ruin this forum with continual bickering, allegations of a variety of nastiness and just downright disgusting behaviour. Wait for it....... next I expect it'll be the annual 'slag off the carnival' festival.
Sad to see so many staff have been ill. Mr Hedden in particular who is a fantastic teacher and worked wonders for my child's grades.
There was loads of dust, shower required!
The chamber mailing list all got sent details of what was being proposed by the councils with an opportunity to give feedback. I'm no longer a member but I still got it. if the councils chose not to consult residents in that area then that's a poor show but it's not the chamber's fault. (I will admit I haven't looked at Facebook) david is stepping down after three excellent years as chair, he ...
Brazilnut - I agree very interesting, to form a balanced opinion it helps to hear the other side ....
It looks a mess with half of it up and the other half hanging down dragging on wet pavements. I understood that it was the Carnival Committee that put it up surely they should take it down. Half a job done, and it does matter because yet again Dawlish looks shabby and uncared for.
But most of the shops and cafes open on Sundays from Easter anyway. There's no point in opening on a wet Sunday in January but once the season kicks off at Easter most places go right through until October half-term. I tried staying open in the winter in a previous business - got as far as end of November when I stopped breaking even and started losing money.
Well done to all pupils and teachers who have worked hard to achieve these results.
