How is this new job being funded?
From the minutes of last week's (6th March) Dawlish Town Council meeting:
PROPOSED EVENTS, PROJECTS AND TOURISM OFFICER Members considered the draft job description for the proposed Events, Projects and Tourism Officer. The Finance & General Purposes Committee had considered the item at its meeting on 28 February and had made a recommendation to the Town Council for its approval. Following discussion, it was suggested that the wording relating to ‘ensuring safe operation’ should be reworded to read ‘to prepare appropriate risk assessments for the safe operation’. In relation to the proposed salary, the Clerk advised he had not been in receipt of the figure from South West Councils who were independently job evaluating the post to set the salary range. He believed it would fall somewhere between £23,000 and £30,000 but could not say for certain. He advised that a salary grade (for example £24K-£27K) was made up of a number of increments, in which the post holder would generally begin at the bottom of the grade, rising annually subject to satisfactory performance until reaching the top of that grade. During discussion Members were keen that the Town Council continued to deliver quality events not only for residents of the Parish but also to encourage visitors and tourists which would have a positive knock effect for the wider community and economy. Resolved that subject to the Job Evaluation salary figure being received from South West Councils, that the Staffing Committee be authorised to proceed with the formal recruitment process for the post.
This isn't a new job, it's a replacement of Alison Holmes who has done this job for several years now but has handed her notice in to move onto something else.
So the salary is already within the budget.
I think she's done a good job and whoever takes over has big shoes to fill!
I reckon there may well be some vacancies in parliament soon, and when those seats are up for grabs who will go for it?. Pay is a lot more that 27k.
Alison will be a sad loss for the town, she has done a brilliant job over the last few years!
Hiding in plain sight!
Organising many of the events in the town e.g. the Christmas market, the Let's all go down the Strand event, being a part of the rejuvenated carnival etc etc.
Just about sums up majorp! Do you actually live here and take part in all the wonderful events that take place in Dawlish because if you do you really would know Alison and what she does!
I was meerly asking questions, do I not have the right on this forum to do that? Some people get involved in everything, others get involved in nothing.
For the avoidance of doubt. The reason I asked (see top post) how this post is to be funded is because from its title it looks like a lot of the function of the post will be concerned with promoting the town via events etc. This function is similar to that undertaken by the (now defunct) town centre manager post. The town centre manager was not employed by the town council. The town centre manager's post was funded from money from the Sainsbury's S106 £200,000 money. As I had been querying, on another thread, about how much of the original £200,000 was left to spend and how that amount (£68,195.41p @ November 2018) was going to be spent in the future (on a play park on the lawn it would seem) I just wanted to see if any of it was going towards the funding of this proposed job.
It would seem not.
( For info re the S106 money: @November 2018 "£134,556.48 has been spent on masterplanning, signage, shopping maps, development of mobile app/website, bridge over Dawlish Water, and employment of town centre manager" - source - email correspondence with TDC)

(if you scroll to the very bottom of the page you will see that it is copyright to Teignmouth and Dawlish CIC. )
Teignmouth and Dawlish CIC was the body (sorry can't think of a more appropriate word) that employed the (then) town centre manager.
From memory - some of those who are standing for (re) election in the coming town and district elections were/are, I believe, members of the Teignmouth and Dawlish CIC . More info here http://teignmouthanddawlishcic.org.uk/
Allison’s job is funded entirely by the council. She is the projects officer, she worked closely with Tracy but her job is independent from the town centre managers role. Alison sits on the Events Committee, which is chaired by a councillor.
