Hmmm ...... call me old fashioned, but it takes all the excitement away when always things are readily available and there is no anticipation. Fruit buns on sale is one thing, but to put a cross on them? Why? @FredBassett - i like your thinking though. i would imagine that would be well tasty
@Don Pearson - aha, i have been wondering what happened to you! so in my old chopping (stomping) ground ahy? spending time in dear ole aotearoa, ka ora! Nothing I can think of, for bringing back. Look forward to that beer, on your return @Don Pearson , @webmaster Many thanks for your kind thoughts and support. I have been rather quiet of late on here, having been busy with other projects. ..... and STILL the work continues! New pic uploaded. Opening date of 22/10/12, put back to 29/10/12, then to 05/11/12 ..... then on the 06/11/12 new scaffolding has been erected and bridge still not open. I've been away and haven't had chance yet to find out new estimate for it being open for use?
Re ripening - yep, bananas will do it, as will apples (that can still be eaten, as opposed to the black bananas). All due to the gas; ethylene. But the fruits must be covered (as you say) in newspaper or cloth, which traps the ethylene. In the trade, I often used to 'bury' inripe avocados, mangoes & pawpaw in the rice bin to speed up thier softening. The rice traps the natural ethylene around ...
@frederick - close! Looked for a great vantage point that I could easily take the same shot each time :-) I will take a pic each time any work is done, no matter how minor .... so you may have to play "spot the difference" ;-) As to the order, that's all sorted, the first pic to appear will be the latest one. I did last when I first got here last year see a set of then & now pics of the town. ...

Two VERY comfy armchairs. Leather, one brown, one red. Both very large The lady of the house wants them gone. So of your in need of them give me a ring on 07765 673060. You will need a van or trailer and take down 3 flight of stairs
Anyone have any traditional recipes or pheasants?
@Lynne - just scored a pheasant from my lovely landlord. @Don Pearson - would have gone lovely topped with some butter braised pheasant! ;-) Makes a good point tho, in regards to swopping excess produce. Hmmm ... a new discussion thread me thinks! (=|:-D
Just returned from a 'day trip' to Roscoff on what Brittany Ferries called a "gourmet cruise" £79 PP all up got us - the return ferry fare (of course) plus a four course dinner onboard, a cabin overnight, breakfast onboard and a three course lunch inc wine and coffee in a local restaurant overlooking Roscoff Bay. The food onboard and the lunch in Roscoff were superb and WAY above the quality I ...

@neilh - nice one! that is brilliant :-) A man after my own heart, I love food related literature ..... Poems and fictional novels. As to history, I devour anything ancient, as in Egyptology, Crusades and Asia (great tv document last night on Tutenkamen) And as you say, when the three collide, all the better. But any mix of the three suits me. I completed a great degree of research many ...
@ZIGGY - my guests certainly loved them and have left with a "doggy bag" along with some of the home made jam :-) As with most things it's all about, practice, practice, practice & experience. As I always tell my trainees, as they often swear I am using a different recipe or doing something "extra" that I wasn't sharing with them! (and I mean for any recipe) ..... "for every stage in any ...
