Is anyone surprised at the reaction to this proposal from the general public?

Is it because the Post Office will be moving to the new banking hub in the old Lloyds Building?

Without boring anyone further, I always try to avoid causing an obstruction on the highway, others seem able to do that for me quite successfully!

Thank you, Lynne, for posting this. The railways would be taking a step backwards if they go ahead with this plan to do away with practically all the ticket offices. I find it very difficult to read screens in bright sunlight, they always seem to be placed at exactly the wrong angle!

This might be naive of me, but couldn't the local council tell all the developers concerned that unless they get their act together so that the road is joined up satisfactorily, they will not adopt the road or take on any responsibility for the maintenance thereof?

Why  be on the Planning Committee and abstain. After all, they are there to make a decision, surely?

Will we ever see it built in our lifetime?

I seem to remember them saying that they would scrap the charge for green garden waste if they were in charge of the council. They put it up by £5 instead for the first year they were elected and now we have to pay another £5 p.a. for fewer collections. Makes sense doesn't it! p.s. our local elections are next May.

My experience is that the powers that be are not interested in how the site is accessed, that seems to fall outside their remit. All they are worried about is how the site itself is configured to allow for traffic on site only.

Cllr. Petherick has been the only one who has ever showed any interest in the issues raised by these planning applications. The other members of the planning committee have been useless.

Unfortunately, these companies have endless money to spend on appeals.while councils have only taxpayers' money. Something is very wrong with the system.

re. Land off Meadow Park - Town Council's objections included access via Badlake Hill. It's worth noting that 5 of the houses at the bottom of Badlake Hill have just spent 10 days without broadband since their cables have been brought down by a passing lorry.

Thanks for the heads-up on this, Lynne. As far as I can make out, this concerns the planning application which has already been submitted, albeit for 4 houses but possibly with another one to be squeezed in at a later date. We'll keep an eye on how it progresses, given there is so much local opposition to the development, especially on the grounds of extra traffic.

I'm not au fait with the inner workings of the council, never having been employed by anything remotely like that in the past but what I do know is that if the case goes to appeal, a final planning decision is made by a Senior Planning Officer, usually from the office in Bristol. Builders don't like building bungalows because they can't cram enough of them into a small space like they can with flats & town houses. Too many retirement flats suffer from rip-off fees & high service charges which don't always end when the owner is no longer around. What older people want are freehold homes on one level which are easy to maintain & within easy reach of essential services. Not ...

This echoes the complaints on Facebook over the past week from local people about mask-less shoppers being let into Sainsbury's in groups and not being challenged about their behaviour by staff or security. I stopped going to Sainsbury's earlier in the year because of concerns like this.

Sorry to be a bit pedantic, but it was an Italian captain who abandoned ship (Costa Concordia). Can’t allow the Greeks to be unfairly libelled!

Unfortunately, once planning permission has been granted, it appears that the Planning Department of TDC don't want to know. I am aware that John Petherick lives not far away, also our Mayor, Alison Foden, is just round the corner from the proposed site. Next time I spot one of the lorries causing a traffic hazard and pollution by reversing up Badlake Hill, I will get in touch with them!

Heard this rumour a few months back. No doubt it will be made into flats and add to the traffic congestion around the Church Street/Weech Road/Badlake Hill area.

Whether he's right or not (and for the record, I don't think he is), he is a nasty, rude individual whatever age he might be.

Well, I just hope that if anything happens to these non-compliant people, they blame themselves for not following the rules and don't start whingeing about it being everybody else's fault.

What we need is for people to behave in a responsible manner and not act in a way that defies all the rules of civilised behaviour. I won't say they're like pigs because even those animals would not wallow in their own filth like this lot do. Are these the same people, I wonder, who are berating the older generation for ruining the environment?

Hedges should be left alone in the bird nesting season. There is legislation for this.

It's pretty useless to visit Sainsbury's at the moment. I've given up trying to get anything in there. Had to get a few things that I couldn't get in Co-op on Saturday so I reluctantly went out this afternoon, plenty of basic supplies in Costcutter.
