I believe when a u.k. prime minister leaves office they also get an immediate pensions pay out - currently around 64K, nice. If politicians had to experience the fall out of many of their ill thought out decisions that affect the common person they would certainly be more careful. They don't so they  wont, that's why many, but not all become politicians I expect.

Hopefully the old shipwreck will be gone soon.

I noticed the barriers a couple of nights ago, thanks to those who were involved in this project. It may not stop those ignorant people who cycle along the sea path and put everyone else at risk, but at least they have no excuse not for seeing the signs. I will feel more inclined to voice my opinion to those cyclists who decide to flaunt said signs from now on.

I assume the £2.9 million pounds is for the purchase of the land, but also includes all the costs of completing the infrastructure - car park, toilets, paths, landscaping, water features, access roads, etc,etc. They do state it is a country park and not just a few fields you can let your dog poop in or ride your motocrosser in, don't they? Anyone know where the specific details of this purchase ...

Popped over to Exmouth on the ferry a couple of days ago and saw how much development has been going on there for the last few years. Makes Dawlish look like we are back in the stoneage. @monty - i was on my way home, some time ago,  from work at 02:30hrs and as i came up to the landsdown i was confronted by at least a mob of 20-30 screaming yobs. they seem to be filtering out of the landsdown towards some bloke who was running straight towards me. i made a quick exit to the left in my car and put my foot down. god forbid what might have ensued if i had been walking or on a push ...

So instead of people being able to safely enjoy the view of the sea from a bench, they are now sitting on the sea wall itself. I witnessed this only yesterday evening and saw a couple of people with young children holding them on their laps, on the sea wall with a good 9 - 10 feet drop below. @MV - maybe you could keep you opinions to yourself for a change, just a thought. I don't pay £2k a year in rates just to do the council's work for them. Whilst millions of pounds are spent in the district on non essentials.

Carer, It's a footpath. I and other pedestrians should be able to walk along there at anytime and not be diverted into moving vehicular traffic.

@Daverc - me too, but knowing my luck the dog would most probably go for me as well.

Shame they couldn't find a British based firm to carry out the work rather than one based in the Netherlands. (before MV barks up - I am aware they have offices in the U.K.) Is the '50 year project' to just study the cliff areas between Dawlish and Teignmouth and the line between Newton Abott and Exeter? It seems a lot of time for such a project.

It's amazing to see how fast the politicians can pass legislation through when it's something they want done. The days of paying billions to a state owned company that sells its product all over the World at the T.V. Licence payer's expense should stop. The cyclist art has now been vandalised again! The previous damage to his head was caught on cctv carried out by a couple of dickheads. Although the police have good descriptions I am yet to see a description of these mindless twits or even a few stills from the cctv in the local papers. It would have helped if the locals had been informed and could have kept a lookout.

Same all over Teignbridge. You just have to have a walk around the town. We want holiday makers to go away to tell others what a little gem Dawlish is. T.C.C you need to get your finger out of that tight little pink purse of yours and spend the tax payer's money on things that are essential and not on one off projects that would be nice if everything else was being looked after. @Lynne - I think we all know what the slogan "make Britain great again" was used for. It meant different things to different sections of our community. It was a neutral statement of potential positivity for all, but, as you say, it was not defined within specifics as that would have diminished the statement. As to what will actually happen with the political interpretation, who knows.

There's no argument that the Successor class replacement project does employ a lot of people in the U.K. and that billions have already been spent on procurement of materials and parts. Also hundreds of millions on upgrading/building larger structures for fabrication. The bonus is that we can use the old missiles with a little rework, what a bargain. The key word here is 'respondents' that is not everyone who attends or tries to get an appointment at the surgery. It is only the number of people who participated in the survey. Without a number for those who participated it is a little naive to assume the majority of people are happy with the services provided. Having a walk around Dawlish yesterday one item for the comfort of young and old alike, visitor and local is the number of benches that have disappeared over the years. The Lawn - the seating is far less due to the concrete shelters being demolished and the wall being taken down parallel to the highstreet. Under the railway bridge on the front. I believe Dawlish forked out tens of thousands of pounds around the town for the current cctv system, but I believe due to cost restraints! they do not monitor them. They could have them linked to a recording system that could continuosly monitor all camera's. Then if an incident took place the police could access the data from a remote server.

The rot set into the NHS decades ago with the ever inflating management with their only goal to save as much money as possible and keep as few beds as possible with patients in them. The reason for this is that they get paid bonuses for spending less. The people who should be working to get more money for the NHS and making sure the staff and patients are supported 100% are the ones destroying it ...
