@Lynne I totally agree with you. As a London resident I gave up my 60 plus oyster card, which gave me free travel on buses and tube as you describe, for the Devon and Cornwall Railcard, which is not free but gives a discount. I was happy to do this for my better quality of life, however some people, as you describe, really do not appreciate when they are better off!!

A damning report into the provisions offered by Gatehouse Farm Childcare in Dawlish found holes in children protection procedures, inadequate recruitment practices and that children were not making enough progress. Work to raise the sea wall at Dawlish has already started but Network Rail is also looking at ways to protect the line between Holcombe and Teignmouth. Network Rail said the design would require some land reclamation to allow a buttress - a sloping rock structure to stabilise the cliffs and protect the railway - to be built. Teignbridge District Council on Tuesday morning agreed to put a £4.9m grant from Homes England towards development costs of a new link road in Dawlish.
