The Perseids are one of the best known annual meteor showers. Each year in mid-August, dust from the comet Swift-Tuttle falls on the Earth's northern hemisphere creating the light show. This year, the Perseids peak on August 13th. While the meteor shower is being somewhat obscured by the glare of a full moon, sky watchers spotted this fireball over El Paso, Texas, on August 5.

The evening kicked off with one of Dawlish's younger rock groups "Skatanic" whose mix of Ska beats and punchy lyrics really got the crowd going. Town Beach was briefly closed by Teignbridge District Council yesterday, since the water did not meet european standards for bathing. The beach was opened again Friday (15/08/2003) after the Environment agency passed the beach fit for bathing.
