I wasn't talking about ethics, I was talking about the cheap supply of food. Although I agree that the two are linked.

I can't believe I'm suggesting this wot with my views on supermarkets 'n all but....... why don't you try contacting them? Both Sainsburys and Tesco have declared their hands for building a store in Dawlish and rumour has it that ASDA and Waitrose may be sniffing around 'n all. Get something out of them for the local community? 'Good' publicity for them?

Yes, a supermarket will stop the trek to Newton or Exeter but it will also bring more cars to us here, in Dawlish. Swings and roundabouts if you ask me. Money will go out of the local economy and into Mr Sainsbury's pockets. 1. From the tourists and 2. From those who live here. Jobs? I have an open mind on how many and how well paid etc. However, let's see if we can guess where a lot of that money ...

Have just voted. Please can lots and lots of people do the same. Not only would it be great for Rock and Sole if it won but if it did then that could generate lots of free publicity for Dawlish and maybe lots of extra visitors wanting to try Rock and Sole chips. (and, of course, whilst they were here they might visit a few of the other shops as well.......) United we stand, divided we fall.

Unfortunately Concerned I am not in a position to get to either Newton A. or Exeter when the Farmers' Markets take place. But I'd willingly follow through a contact address or phone number. Does anyone have anthing?

And a Farmers' Market in Dawlish could help out perhaps? Alternatively, and until and unless that happens why don't you get your fruit and veg delivered by a local, organic, supplier?

If Dawlish had a proper Farmers' Market it might also draw people in from surrounding villages plus tourists in the holiday season. This would knock spots of the so called attractions of a supermarket because: 1. All food would be fresh and locally produced. 2. All monies spent would go back into the local economy.

Perhaps if there were to be a bigger supermarket nearer to Dawlish then those people who presently use the shops in the town (butcher, bakers, greengrocer, florists, 3 x convenience stores, 2 x chemists, newsagents, delicatessens etc)* might cease to do so and choose to use the supermarket instead. Hence, those shops that I've just mentioned above would lose trade and possibly close. Also, I think ...
